Hilltopper
Who is going to be on the search committee for our new HC? Seeing how things went last time, do you want TW to have the final say? I know there is a lot of speculation about who we should hire, but I think this decision about the makeup of the committee is the key to a good hire. Quite a few ZN.O members want Jim Tressel as the coach, but I'm not sure he would be interested. With that said, I would love to see him as the head of the search committee. He has quite a good track record of hiring good assistant coaches, many of whom have moved on and become successful BCS head coaches. What do you think? Captain Kangaroo
When Lolla bolted for Louisville I saw Mike Waddell (interim AD at the time) walking around campus and said - "Man, this sucks. Lolla had it going on here. WTF?" Waddell replied - "Don't worry...we've got someone even BETTER lined up." I thought he was insane. But the new coach turned out to be Porter. Whomever was on that search committee needs to be contacted yesterday for advice on the football hire.
Dr Z
Who is going to be on the search committee for our new HC?We should not repeat how it was done last time or we are doomed to fail again. We just can not fail this time! This hire is more important than just football.

TW said he had his man and went against board recommendation for a committee and it back fired. The search committee will happen TW will sit on it, but as far as him having the final say...he will do nothing more than announce it, take the credit and move one. His contract is up in September and he will not be renewed.

GP1
Question.....why in the world did we pass on Waddell as AD? I know for sure he would never have let this debacle happen with the football program. Because he wasn't ready to be the AD at a D-1A school. After getting more experience at UC, three other schools agreed when he didn't get offers at those schools. The people at UofA did the right thing. Let'sGoZips94
I don't think there really is a need for a search committee. I think there is one, but they are just bringing in insignificant names to keep people guessing. I don't think the UofA would have fired Ianello unless they had someone already lined up. That being said, I also believe that someone is a BIG name that can boost attendance, bring in money, etc. (AKA Tressel).
GP1
There is going to be a search committee, which makes me happy. "Fire quickly, hire slowly" is one of my favorite business sayings. I think they take their time and try to find a good coach.

Usually just the Athletic Director and his associates as well as a few of the top boosters. Then again, not always. You saw what happened in Connecticut when UConn went behind the big booster's back to hire a coach. He wanted back every cent he donated to the program. Hilltopper
Looks like I was right all along. Jim Tressel not interested in coaching job at University of Akron “While Coach Tressel has shared with us that he is not interested in coaching at Akron, he has graciously volunteered to help his alma mater however he can during the search for our next football coach,” Director of Athletics Tom Wistrcill said in a statement released late Tuesday night Do I get a chicken dinner? zen
Looks like I was right all along. lul, I also suggested that his current consulting roles made him a good candidate for helping with this search process. ...but I still think that if they are in the negotiation process (IE wheeling and dealing about numbers), they are going to deny deny deny just like Meyer did.... but I hate to say that because I really think it's better that some of these people on here have their hopes dashed. They're going nuts with this stuff

Then I would make sure I did an extensive search into whomever he suggests background.
