zipsbandman
There has been a lot of talk of the zips moving down to 1-AA, but I really have no interest in 1-AA ball. Given the play of football and basketball, maybe we are in over our heads in Division 1 athletics. It costs far too much money to compete at this level, and Akron really needs to focus on becoming Northeastern Ohio's premier research University. You cannot do that pouring millions into football and basketball. We have a quality athletic conference right here in our backyard, the Ohio Athletic Conference. Mount Union has really set the standard for the conference, and it might be the best interest of the University to be associated with it. I am really impressed by the game day atmospheres at these schools. They might not be "big time" but the students really get behind their teams, and it is much more feasible to compete for national championships. Lets be honest, nobody cares about soccer. Division III football is bigger than soccer, and I can see us running the table in the OAC conference with our facilities and advantage in budget. We'll have natural rivals and travel costs will be minimal. We need to join the OAC conference.

ZipperRoo44
Perhaps to cut costs we should just cut the band. I'll bring my iPod and play music that people really enjoy hearing instead of that 1970's stuff our band plays.

We need to focus more on academics. We just blew a million dollars buying out a scrub coach so his successor can coach in front of an empty stadium. Something's gotta give. There is definitely a lot of little man's complex going on here.

And maybe the best facilities and largest stadium in all of D-3 !! We'd dominate !! Woo Hoo I never thought I'd even see a post on here that suggested that the best path for us would be to take ourselves back to where we were about 50 years ago. yazan07
Guys, he has a great point, but I don't think we should stop there. I didn't realize until the other day that there is actually conference for university branches in Ohio, the Ohio Regional Campus Conference. I think the best way for our school to make it to the top would be for our administration to go to Can't State's and admit they they are far superior to us, and that it doesn't make sense to have two major universities so close together. Then we humbly request that they give us the pleasure of becoming a branch of their university. Once we have established ourselves as Can't State - Akron Campus then we enter and dominate the ORCC. Sound like a good plan? EDIT: Actually, hold that thought. I think they might have soccer in that conference, so we should probably find a lower one because let's be honest nobody cares about soccer
Doug Snyder
This thread just shows how frustrated we are as fans. We all know that the initial post is not worth the time it took to read it and certainly not worth a response. I remember a valued mentor of mine once advising me.. "Never swing at pitches in the dirt". I am pretty sure this post and thread would apply. And now I feel I just wasted valuable time writing this post. ZachTheZip
Winners win and losers lose. Switching divisions won't alter that. It's a culture at Akron that won't be solved until we get the right people at the top who can then change or replace the people beneath them until a winning culture permeates the entire athletic department. Right now there are pockets of winning culture, but they're not well connected and they can't spread it to the rest of the department.

The Wac features mostly Rocky Mountain and west coast teams of which not one is academically the match for Case. All would, However, beat the hell out of Case in any sport. Boise came from the WAC. Maybe you have heard of that school? Case is part of the University Athletic Association which is made up of academically superior D3 schools such as Washington University in St. Louis, The University of Chicago, etc. It seems this post is as well thought out as your original suggestion. I heard that Can't State will be rejecting our bid to become their Akron Campus. They simply don't have the money to support us. I hear they scored a much bigger gain by obtaining the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, which will be transformed to their summit county campus. We simply aren't good enough for Can't.
