Winston-Salem came in averaging 41 points a game. Wayne holds them to 14, and 7 of that really was given up by the offense.

Whether or not Coach Winters gets the job here or not, which I believe he has to, I'm extremely happy for him tonight. He deserves this, and the journey he's taken with that program is truely remarkable.

Listening to the announcers, I believe this is what they said about all four teams WSU has beaten on the road:

1) St Cloud St hadn't lost a home game in 15 games

2) Nebraska-Kearney hadn't lost a home game in over 2 years

3) Defending national champion Minn-Duluth hadn't lost a home game in 17 or 18 games?

4) Winston-Salem was, of course, previously undefeated

Wow!

Have they mentioned that it's Division 2...it's kind of important

You mean to tell me they are playing D3 teams?? How can that be...they let a D2 team into D3 tournament?? Boy is the NCAA corrupt!!! Are the D2 WSU required to spot the D3 teams some points at least??

If you cannot distinguish the D2 Championship from the D3 then you need to quit posting on the web and get immediate help.

Perhaps you can enroll in the same clinic that will be treating Proenza and Wistricil if they cannot lock up a coach who is an alum and who is playing for a NCAA Championship.

I think he forgot this; ;)

I once heard a political candidate bring a competitor back down to earth by reminding him that you can't compare running a Wal-Mart to running a small-town corner grocery store.

I'm continually reminded of that statement when I see certain posts on here. And people like Coach Heath at Ken+ State come to mind. And that was only a jump to a larger school in the same division.

Like I said once before, if any of you have seen Lake Erie College in Painesville, you'll know what I'm talking about. Just don't blink as you drive by.

But, even while pointing out this stark difference, and regardless of our individual thoughts about whether he can help our own football program, you always like to see something good happen to a Ex-Zip. So, I congratulate Paul on his magical playoff run.

Skip, you keep pointing out Lake Erie College as a disqualifier for PW getting to the next level. Many naysayers could use the same argument with Eastern Michigan being a disqualifer for MAC coaches moving to the next level. Think about it. Boise State having some absolute cupcakes for half their schedule doesn't mean Chris Petersen isn't a good coach. Paul Winters is having great success this year against the very best of D-II.

I did not think ANYBODY would think it serious that a ;) was needed. LOL

I don't think they did. They also failed to mention the day of the week or the relative humidity.

We understand that you're not impressed by D-II football. But you do realize that Lake Erie College is one of the most recent new members in all of D-II (joined in 2010). They're anything but a typical D-II program.

And since you continue to discredit all of D-II, I thought it might be interesting to take a look a the history of the D-II championship game. There sure are some familiar names in that link, numerous programs that are now in either FBS or FCS. My point is that history says the cream of D-II frequently have proven their worth by not only performing well in the D-II playoffs, but also by making a leap into a higher division with various levels of success.

I also think it's interesting that Paul Winters has already matched his earliest mentor, by qualifying for the D-II championship game. And he did it at a school with far less of a football tradition. MTXE still works!!! Go Zips!!!

Congrats to PW and his organization! I still say what makes you guys think he'll even consider UA? After this run, he may be able to jump over our mess.
Are there examples of coaches winning whatever PW is going to win and successfully moving to Div I from whatever division that PW is in?

PS Does PW get Z-P back into Zips football?

I'm not unimpressed with D-II football as much as I am unimpressed with the idea of catapulting a guy up two levels to coach at my alma mater. Especially a guy that I am personally unimpresed with, am unimpressed with his coaching record, and unimpressed with what he and his fellow leaders did to this football program the last time around.

For me, that's not the guy you go out on a limb for and give him a two-level leap. And up to this point, it doesn't appear that any of the other 119 D-1A programs have been willing to do it either.

You're unimpressed with the #6 offense in the country. OK :thumb:

You point to one school in D2 and act like that's the accurate represenation of D2 football. Wayne State plays in the GLIAC, which includes teams like Grand Valley State, which average more people per game than we do (in people actually in the seats, not the tickets sold to sponsers trying to keep our D1 status afloat). There are a lot of great coaches that have come out of the GLIAC, including Brian Kelly, who worked a miracle at CMU and Cinci. There are many more, do some research and get back to me. I don't know who in the heck you think we're going to get to come here who is more qualified than Paul Winters, but your constant bashing and ignorance is getting old.

Skip, let me get this straight. Brian Kelly takes a very decent Geand Valley St wins national championships goes to CMU and wins. Winters has taken Lake Erie (that is what Wayne was equivalent to when he got there) and has them playing in the national championship. Winters knows how to get it done, stop with this "so what it's D2" BS. Chip Kelly went from FCS to BCS, so did Tressel. Those schools and their supporters had the same problems. Winters is getting interest from 4 or 5 schools at our level, get over yourself.

The word 'catapulting' may not apply when describing taking the Akron job. Not only is this not like going to a top tier D-I program, its not even moving 'up' to a successful 'mid-level' D-I program. Nobody here has any idea if Winters or somebody else will get the Akron job. But it certainly is not a reach for a successful D-II coach to come to Akron.
