jdurbinakron
Abit off the subject but did anyone else notice joe dunn "accidently" say the next football coach for the university of akron will be luke fickell, then frenchie and dunn act like they had just let a huge secret slip? I liked how they apologized for causing people to drive their cars off the road. So... were they joking? There's not much activity on ZNO tonight. I'd figure that if ZNO posters heard that one, and took it seriously, then ZNO would be blowing up right now. Most of the posters were probably at the game and didn't hear it. I was driving home when they apologized on the radio. It was kind of funny that it was actually about an upcoming bus trip. He said they thought they were off the air when he said what he said. So it could be true.
lumberjack
couple of things so far. they have no answer for Zeke down low Gilliam has lost his confidence the refs are a bit touchy as kd has been hit with a t and 3 fouls about 40ft away from the ball on both teams Walsh is playing well. Both him and Zeke are keeping Akron in this game. the depth should ware this team out unless A&T stays hot from outside. a hot team from deep can do wonders for your legs. I agree Chauncey played pretty bad tonight. Maybe he had a fight with his girl..His mind surely was not on basketball!!!

OZoner
On a side note. It's really disappointing seeing Can't, Ohio, and Buffalo have such better records. We are the best team in the MAC, but because we didn't stack our schedule with cupcakes we're stuck in the middle. Ohio has played a tougher schedule than Akron. So has Western Michigan, though nobody is confusing them for contenders.

Valpo Zip
On a side note. It's really disappointing seeing Can't, Ohio, and Buffalo have such better records. We are the best team in the MAC, but because we didn't stack our schedule with cupcakes we're stuck in the middle. Valpo, Duquesne, and MTSU are not exactly power houses. If we won those games, we would have been right there with Can't. It is not the scheduling that is hurting us, it is the loosing
Captain Kangaroo
Watching the game last night, it really eats at you to see the potential of this team if we can ever get healthy and suspension-free. We are really good as-is. Probably in the top 3 in the MAC even without Abreu and Harney. With them, if it ever happens, it will really be amazing to watch. The game vs. OU on the 14th will be awesome. As a tiny side note - Did anyone else notice Green leave the scorer's table, walk back to the bench, and decline to enter the game? He doesn't appear to be a happy camper. Certainly the least of our concerns, but I always like to see what the guys at the end of the bench can do when given some PT (being a career bench-warmer myself). Oldham actually has some decent skills.

He just doesn't fit our new-found athletic style. Bring in a JUCO C/5 to back up Zeke.

plowerman78
Ohio won 82-66. The Aggies had it within 6 with 6 minutes left, but OU was just too much.
Dave in Green
It looks like OU was at full strength tonight with 13 players getting PT. Yet they allowed NCA&T to hang around a lot closer than the Zips did minus Rico, Harney and Egner. An interesting stat is that half of OU's field goal attempts were 3-pointers. They continue to be guard-oriented with Nick Kellogg, Stevie Taylor and Walter Offutt all having good scoring games, and DJ Cooper handing out lots of assists. I would get special satisfaction if the Zips could crush the Bobkitties at least twice this season. There's no question that OU comes into Zips games with an attitude that they're the better team, and that the Zips are not worthy of being in the same league. We are the best team in the MAC, but because we didn't stack our schedule with cupcakes we're stuck in the middle. Not really sure you can accuse Ohio of playing a cupcake schedule., their current SOS is 49 with an RPI of 8. 6 of 14 OOC games are against teams with an RPI currently less than 100. OU is 4-1 so far against these teams with Robert Morris(82) left to play. Lone loss was at Lville(5) by 5, wins were home against Lamar(35) and on the road at Oakland(74), Marshall(44) and Northern Iowa(7). With that being said, the MAC is going to be a grind like it always is. Things like records and RPIs and SOSs don't mean much when you have two teams that are so familiar with each other and have a personal history. Its going to be a grind and its going to be fun. Just got word today that ESPNU is picking up the Zips v Cats game on 1/14, looking forward to another battle.

The Zips now have the talent level to look at a player and say that after two years and walk-ons playing in front of him, it is time to go. We no longer have to sit on average players hoping they turn into something some day. The writing is on the wall.

I gotta tell ya, this Akron team scares me, once you get back to 100% you're going to be hard to beat. Quickzips
I still feel like OU is a bit of a paper tiger. You can argue SOS numbers all you want, but the fact of the matter remains that outside of Louisville they have only played 4 games against teams that currently have winning records. They squeaked by Lamar at home in OT. They barely came away with 2-point wins over Oakland and Marshall on the road, and they had their only truly impressive victory on the road against Northern Iowa. The bobcats are still a team that is woefully thin up front and relies way too heavily on the 3 ball. They are taking over 36% of their shots from 3 point land, and they only have two real "big" men in Baltic and Kelley. It is going to be very interesting to see what happens in MAC play when the 3 pointers aren't falling the way the Bobkittens want them too and they have to rely on their post game against guys like Zeke, Greene, McCrae, Watt, Jones, Cvetinovic, Treadwell, Stainbrook and Whitfield. The bobcats may be riding high now, but trust me when I say that they are going to hit some adversity soon. Let's not go annointing them until we see how they respond. Past bobcat teams have folded up the tent and mailed it in. Is this group any different?
