Yep, I was there. I was alluding to his number being retired this time.

I gotcha. I'm just wondering how we honor a former player again, after we just did this a few years ago.

Maybe we should have just retired his number at that time. I'm not sure why we didn't. Because, I think we got far more mileage out of having a "JT Night" while he was at the peak of his playing career, when he was getting national attention, and was one of the best defenders in the game, rather than after he's in NFL retirement. Even if we wait until after his HOF inductions 5 years from now, the only people left that will remember his Akron connection are die hard Zips fans who are at least 40 years old. Younger fans willl have long ago moved on to admiring the best players of their day.

I think the timing 5 years ago was ideal. Maybe we just should have done more when we had the chance.

I'm pretty sure icoach probably had breakfast with JT at some point also. Probably focused discussion on how dumb JT was to have attended Akron rather than ND.

Seriously, do you think it ever occurred to icoach to enhance our program by cultivating relationships with Zip footballers who had gone on to enjoy some success at the pro level? I wouldn't be surprised if during the Bowden regime we designate one or two games a year as (insert name here) Day where we bring the guy back and give him a some kind of memento at halftime. This could beneficial in so many ways; game attendance, recruiting, fund raising.

JT tweeted this earlier today:

"About to have breakfast w/ #Akron new head coach Terry Bowden and the AD. Gotta get the Zips going. Watch out MAC conference"

Sorry to hear he's having breakfast with Wistercil, but it's cool that he'll be meeting with Bowden.

Funny conversation from several years ago, when Mike Thomas was AD:

AD: "Hi Jason. We noticed you've never really donated to UA before. Would you like to become a little more involved with your alma mater?"

JT: "Sure. No one's ever asked me before."

Unreal that he was an all pro for several seasons before anyone from UA contacted him. Great to see Bowden reaching out.
