NewZipsFan
In just about 30 minutes, our new coaching staff will get their first opportunity to work with their team. Mat drills begin this morning at 5:45am. They will work out with the team 3 days a week for the next 4 weeks (with weight training in between)... The workouts will be video-taped so the coaches are really going to get a great feel for the types of players we really have. I am not a betting person, but if I were, I'd bet that they are going to be pleasantly surprised over the next couple of weeks. I can just imagine the excitement that these players have. Its truly a clean slate - and every single one of them has the opportunity to work his hardest and prove what kind of player he is. Hard work, enthusiasm, and tenacity will go a very long way to impressing Coach Bowden and company - as well as building a great football team. I can't wait to hear about it! Go Zips! They will work out with the team 3 days a week for the next 4 weeks (with weight training in between)... It's funny when I see this and it reminds me of being in college. I swore I would never get up early in the morning to exercise again. Now that I'm in my 40s, I get up three days a week at 5:00AM to go work out at my gym. It's a lot easier to do when a I'm not hungover and people aren't yelling at me for an hour.

Obviously, the players don't know what is expected of them yet (its the first day!) - but they probably do by now I heard there was good energy and enthusiasm, and Coach Bowden thinks that the next session will be even better. Oh -- and before they began, he had Whitney Houston's famous rendition of the Star Spangled Banner played in the field house. Yes -- this is true Many may not know this -- but Coach Bowden loves music -- mostly late 60's and 70's era... and James Taylor is his all time favorite. He even named one of his daughters Jamie Taylor Bowden

johnnyzip84
OK, let’s make this clear. I’m FAR from being an insider. Like many of us, I’m just a silly, long-time fan of a football program that has unfortunately provided modest reasons for optimism over the years. I am ecstatic that it looks like that’s all about to change! Thanks for the early review, NZF. I like the decision to start things off with Whitney’s classic rendition. NewZipsFan
Greatest ever? I like the insight. Greatest ever - "exclamation point"! not question mark Too bad most of our team wasn't born when she performed it at that Super Bowl... Had to give the guys "goose bumps" to start the morning. I did hear from one player that the "workout was GREAT, and a GREAT way to start his birthday!". Love to hear that! GREATEST EVER - National Anthem (video)
Buckzip
I have never heard anyone come close to Whitneys version. What a shame she screwed up her life so badly.

ZachTheZip
I'm still trying to figure out who you are I have an idea, but I will leave it up to NewZipsFan to decide if they want to divulge that kind of info.
NewZipsFan
Same here! "Don't look behind the curtain... I am the great and powerful OZ"... LOL Just a HUGE college football fan who happened to move to the area very recently from Florida. I am an FSU alum, so I have always followed the Bowdens very closely (ok - not ALWAYS - but for the past 25 years) - and obviously a HUGE fan of the whole "dadgum" family. Its funny -- because there's nothing that I've ever posted that I haven't read on the internet somewhere (get with the social media stuff, people!! - as Coach Bobby used to say, "I don't know much about that Ebay or Internet thing"...but even at 82 years old he learned some new tricks. His tweets and Facebook posts can be hysterical!

NewZipsFan
Let's not get crazy. Traditionally, there is nothing better than this: I would bet my dog that you are at least 15 years younger than I am. Faith's rendition was great. But no one will ever surpass Whitney's. Period. Just my opinion And that of the rest of the rational world... lol

johnnyzip84
OMG -- I had forgotten that Roseanne debacle at that baseball game... hysterical..and oh so inappropriate all at the same time.. How about the only Pro Football HOF Game I ever attended? I took my youngest, because he was a big Dolphins fan (JT has a little something to do with that.......well he and a dude named Marino) at the time. Got to see JT play a series or two and I also got to see ex-Zips WR Lavell Bailey run a few pass patterns for St. Louis. What I HADN'T bargained for was Canton's own Macie Gray stumbling through the anthem is a drunken stupor. She was flat out booed by her hometown crowd and rightfully so. I believe she did apologize later.

The Star Spangled Banner isn't for those afraid to mess up...it's for people that have the guts to sing it all out LIVE. I'll always respect that more. And though I'm a traditionalist, I'll take Jose Feliciano's 1968 World Series rendition as well as Marvin Gaye's 1983 NBA All Star game Anthem over pre-recorded crap any day as well. Not trying to start a fight on ZN.o, we've had enough of those, but it's 100% FACT that she sang to a dead microphone while her prerecorded voice was played. Link Link Link As you can see, it's common knowledge (since days after the performance) that it was lip-synced.
