mes102 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Figured to get this going...I am one of the posters that I will follow the Zips where ever they play in Postseason. I was beyond livid when The Zips didn't care when they had a home game against UW-Green Bay in CBI. I don't understand how players don't want to keep playing, even if it means not the NCAA tournament. You first started to play the game because you love it, and us fans follow the sport/team because we like or love the sport as well. IF anyone watched the Selection Show yesterday, it sounded like non-conference strength of schedule was a deciding factor for the selection committee. So, because of that, can't wait to see what our schedule would look like. Here's a start on that: Puerto Rico Tip-off Teams Akron Southern Miss Xavier Penn State Oklahoma State Tennessee Providence NC State It's not a bad field of teams. If we expect to be where we think we should be next year, we need to win this tournament or at least make it to the finals. We should be the crowd favorite with two players from Puerto Rico on our team next year... Quote
zippyfan34 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Plus we have the return Creighton bracketbuster game from 2 years ago. They could be a top 25 team when we play them. Quote
Let'sGoZips94 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Don't we also have Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Oral Roberts, and Cleveland State? Quote
zippyfan34 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Don't we also have Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Oral Roberts, and Cleveland State? Probably all of those except ORU. There is an option with the Bracket Buster game to delay the return trip a year (not sure excatly how that works), and the past 2 years both VCU and Creighton have been delayed the 1 year. Quote

Blue & Gold Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Will the preseason tournament teams factor into the Zips' RPI? Quote
Let'sGoZips94 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Will the preseason tournament teams factor into the Zips' RPI? The Puerto Rico tournament? Yes, I believe so. Not 100% sure though. Quote
zippy5 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Will the preseason tournament teams factor into the Zips' RPI? Of course. Quote
tpsjugglerdude Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 It will be interesting to see who we draw for this. We get to play 3 games and they will all be on the ESPN family. I would like NC State, Tenn, and Oklahoma St. I wouldn't be upset with Xavier either. Quote

Blue & Gold Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Of course. Well, good. I had heard somewhere, or read somewhere, that some of these preseason tourneys don't count toward the regular season W-L record. So I was also curious about them being applied to a team's regular season RPI. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Well, good. I had heard somewhere, or read somewhere, that some of these preseason tourneys don't count toward the regular season W-L record. So I was also curious about them being applied to a team's regular season RPI. There was a time when that tournament included Puerto Rican teams, like U of PR or similar, which didn't count because they weren't NCAA members. But all these games count toward RPI now. This is a GREAT field. Would love to get XU, USM and either Tennessee or NC St. And I agree with R4R that it could be AKRON ranked in the top 25 when or after we meet Creighton. BUT that could depend largely on how well they perform in the NIT. Go Zips! Wave goodbye to Coach Carmody. Then take a bite of the Big Apple. Quote
