MDZip
Could have just added this to some of the other discussions, but I admit I really wanted to use that title. Anyway, now that Groce has moved on, what does it mean for the Zips for next year? I think Groce was a very good coach and even thought they have a lot of talent returning, I think the timing could not have been much better for the Zips. With our loaded roster returning, I can't see how a coaching change will benefit the Bobkittens at all. I can see it potentially causing some problems. Other than Cooper I think we match up better at every position for next year. Lets hope their new coach can wreak a little havoc for us. Depends on how good a job you think Jeff Boals will do as the HC at ohio. Also how many people leave the program after feeling burned by Groce. To me, it shouldn't have mattered (and we should not have been wishing or celebrating his leave) what ohio did. We beat them once this year, should have done it twice, and our team should put this season behind them and know they are bigger and more talented than ohio. We shouldn't even have spent this much time talking about ohio.
Dave in Green
Depends a lot on who relaces Groce at OU. If it's Boals, he would have a lot of insight on how to coach OU against the Zips.

bigzipguy
I really do respect everybody's opinion on this board. BUT, ZIPS PLAYERS, COACHES AND FANS MUST REALIZE THEY HAVE TALENT!!!!! STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT THIS COACH WILL DO TO US OR THIS PLAYER WILL DO TO US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! START TALKING AND PLANNING ABOUT WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO TO THEM!!!!!!!! I want us to elevate our program, not necessarily for them to lower theirs. We need to rise up. If we can't beat them, then I wish them the best. Captain Kangaroo
OU is committed to winning basketball. Look at Larry Hunter...the guy had a career record of 204-148 @ OU, was 19-11 in his final season, and they fired him. Basketball expectations are high in Athens. Their next coach will be very good. Bank on it.

I could be wrong, but sometimes I feel like I believe in this team to do great things more than they do. We should all feel that way. They are an extremely talented group of players. Dave in Green
Cooper may have his highest draft value right now. It's highly unlikely he will get a chance to perform on the big stage next season as he just did, and memories can be short when it comes to evaluating the performance of college basketball players, i.e. what have you done lately?. It's possible that he could sneak in as a late second-round pick in this season's draft. Cooper would be foolish not to be consulting with his family and advisors about his best course of action after Groce's move.

Quickzips
Anyone who thinks this isn't going to have a negative impact on OU next season is dreaming. Ask Can't fans how well things work out when you return almost your entire roster, but replace your head coach. Even if everybody from their roster stays (doubtful), I can't see them having the same kind of season they had this year. Groce plays a very particular brand of basketball that requires a very particular brand of players. He built that team around guys that fit his system. You can't necessarily say that all of those guys are going to fit in with the new coach. This is a blow to OU, no doubt about it.
Dave in Green
It's 2012 Dave. Coaches use this new device called "video" and it helps them with their memory. Cute quip but missing the main point that Cooper's performance next season without Groce could seriously degrade his NBA draft potential and end up costing him a lot of money. It's unlikely that he'll get an opportunity next season to look any better than he did in this year's NCAA tournament.

The odds are seriously against Cooper and the Bobcats doing what they did this year a second time. His stock will not be higher next year than this year...unless of course he ballhogs even more, takes 30 shots a game and averages 30 points. Dave in Green
Another potential problem for OU is that Walter Offutt has already sat out a year and will probably have a college degree before next season starts. That might free him up to move to another school for his senior season without having to sit out another year. With Groce gone, Offutt may not hang around OU if he has a better opportunity to showcase his talents elsewhere.
ZachTheZip
OU is already losing one of their players, TyQuane Gourd. He was one of two freshman on the team and saw limited minutes this season.
johnnyzip84
If he's thinkiing about coming out early, I wonder if Cooper will consult former teammate Armon Bassett. That move worked out pretty well for Bassett

UAZip0510
Totally unrelated, but found this hilarious: @djcoop5: Can't wait to I'm finished with this book I'm writing . Giving 500 free to people in Athens I can't wait to he's finished either, should be a great read.
