skip-zip
Has anyone looked over the BCS Standings today? The highest ranking Big 10 team is at #27 ???? (Yes, we know that one of them would be higher, if they were not ineligible due to cheating, and covering up cheating) Forget about the normal power players, although I think it's important to note that the SEC has 5 teams in the Top 10. Even the Big East is well represented, with 3 Top-25 unbeaten teams right now. I've been talking to people about this all afternoon and evening. Is this finally the opportunity for the MAC to break through and gain some notoriety? There was a great article written a few years ago, after some of those runs by Ball State, WMU, and CMU, etc. (including some upsets of Big 10 teams), which indicated that it could be happening. Could it be materializing now? Wouldn't you think that it's possible for one or two MAC teams to be better than #27 in the BCS rankings before the end of the year? Doesn't a weak Big-10 present a great opportunity for all of us on the recruiting trail? I thought it was an interesting time to revisit the topic, after today's BCS rankings show some interesting trends.
LZIp
There is no "downfall" of the B1G. Are they having a down year, yes. It wont last.
GP1
There is no "downfall" of the B1G. Are they having a down year, yes. It wont last. A down year? It's been a downward trending decade. All the Big Ten needs to do is add Rutgers and UCONN and it will be right up there with the SEC....Just ask any Big Ten fan.
K92
I was born in 1968. The Big10 can lay claim to 4 national titles during my lifetime. Hardly a juggernaut. Any rational person sees the league for what it is.
Spin
Fourth rated conference in college football (behind B12, SEC, Pac12). The 12th ranked MAC wishes they had that kind of "demise".
Dr Z
I would like for TB to "steal" some lineman from the little 10, and to actually beat someone in that conference. I'm optimistic that a TB led Zips team will accomplish both in the near future.

skip-zip
So we are talking about how bad the big 10 is, but we want to get the players they are going after. Ironic. Regardless of their national stature, they are still getting better players right now than MAC schools, so of course we want their players. Like I say all the time: A weak Big 10 is good for Akron. So, the fact that their top team is ranked #27 should be good news for the Blue and Gold.
MDZip
Not a single team from the Big Ten in the to 25 in the BCS standings. Thats partially because OSU in ineligible but not one other team Big Ten team is represented. The ACC has two and the Big East has three. Shockingly Ohio U. is not on the list either. According the Jeff Sagarin's ratings, OU is the 72nd best team in the counrty and has the 161st hardest schedule (includes FCS teams). For comparison, the Zips schedule is rated #112. Zips Win!
I've been telling the buckeye honks on this board (and getting ripped for it) that the big ten is no more. It has been the medium ten for two years now.. In time, though, this should change. Thanks to a playoff format where SOS matters. M10 commissioners will have to schedule better. (i.e. vs. opponents where there is a chance you might lose).
skip-zip
Update: Well, I indicated that it was possible, and now it has happened. The Top "Little-10" team is 28th this week. The Top MAC team is 27th.

skip-zip
Update this Week: Michigan is the ONLY "Little 10" team that has managed to slip above OU. Toledo is only a few spots behind, and moving into the picture now too. I guess some poeple can try to convince themselves that the Big 10 or 11 or 12 is still held in some sort of regard. But with NO teams in the Top 20 in the BCS rankings, the proof is in the pudding. This isn't the 1960s or 1970s anymore. For various reasons, they are just drifting away from the top of the pack. GP1
But with NO teams in the Top 20 in the BCS rankings, the proof is in the pudding. This isn't the 1960s or 1970s anymore. For various reasons, they are just drifting away from the top of the pack. Actually, the proof is on the field. Rankings are ranking and much of that is opinion. The general opinion is correct though. The real problem in the Big Ten is there is getting to be little difference in the talent between it and the ACC. The games are about as entertaining to watch as a USGA Q-School match. Some of their teams now lose to MAC schools. It used to be they could hide how bad they were by playing two MAC schools a year, a I-AA team and some poor BCS team in OOC play. Now they are losing some of their MAC games. It just isn't in fourth place as a conference....it is a distant fourth. The addition of Nebraska has done nothing for the league. What next? Add Rutgers and UCONN? The Big Ten just isn't bad at this point, it is getting worse. One of their key teams is less than one year into a ten year punishment that will cripple the program. Nebraska is average and has a joke of a coach.....the coach can be corrected, but Nebraska being in Nebraska can't. Wisconsin?....Yawn. Michigan vs. OSU....Nobody outside of those two states cares. OSU is their best program right now, but nobody knows how good they really are because they don't play anyone...My guess is their one trick pony (Miller is a great player though) of an offense would get squashed against a good non-Big Ten BCS team. Don't tell an OSU fan their schedule is weak though, because you will have to hear about how they play Oklahoma in 2016.

GP1
MAC now one spot behind Big10 according to CBS Sports. Good stuff. A few years ago, I called the MAC Dollar General. Lets be honest, it was complete crap. However, the league is much, much, much better now. I don't need a guy at ESPN to tell me that. It is now a very entertaining league to watch. All I want is entertainment and the Mac is providing a high level of it.
