RootforRoo44
How about Dalton Williams?! It wasn't too long ago that most of us were unsure of who would start at QB this season, and if it was Dalton, whether or not he would be the man for the entire year. Well, with an impressive performance through seven games, I don't think there are any doubters left. I took a look at some of his stats and realized that he's on pace to break several Akron and MAC records. LINK. Pretty amazing considering our futility on offense just a year ago. LINK. Blue & Gold
And promising for the future, considering Kyle Pohl was neck-and-neck with DW to be named the starter. IIRC, Coach Bowden said that it was essentially a coin flip between KP & DW, but DW had more experience @ the position & w/ the spread. What's even more impressive is this is the first year for the entire offense in this system. Next year they will all have a year of experience and Pohl should be ready. With another stud receiver (or 2) next year, we should *really* be able to spread the field.
scottditzen
I thought Dalton looked promising at the Scrimmage. Good to see him and the offense help to erase the memories of our utterly pathetic last season. I never never ever again want to be shocked, or hear sarcastic cheers when we get a first down. K92
I just had someone ask me today, "Akron's QB is third in the nation in passing yards????" It was priceless.
Captain Kangaroo
Makes you wonder how many 1-year guys we'll pursue next season. Are we still on the lookout for guys like Williams, Commack, Magnum and Hines? Or is recruiting year #2 of the Bowden era going to be 75% Freshmen and 25% JUCO (as I predict)? Obviously with the stable of young QB's we've assembled, another Williams-like 5th year Senior QB is not going to be recruited for 2013. I have a feeling that coach Bowden will try to go as heavy as he can on the one year guys once again. I may be wrong, but I am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about recruiting this year. The last few verbals we have gotten arent even mentioned in any recruiting databases. I have also been reading about every recruit we have offered and there aren't too many that seem interested. We need to chalk up some wins in order to start building our depth from quality high school talent.

LZIp
I think we need to have a decent amount of concentration on JUCO guys again, more specifically defense. We are thin and weak on that side of the ball. I dont see any harm in getting some guys that can come in and play right away. And to be clear, Hines wasnt a one year guy targeted by TB. He has planned to come here since Ianello was coach. He attended classes in Akron while sitting out last year.

Merely a product of the system. See Zac Robinson, Colt Brennan, Graham Harrell, Case Keenum, etc, etc.

MaxZIP
He does not even remotely have the arm to play in the nfl. He doesn't have the wins or the arm to deserve attention. Wins some damn games before thinking NFL. Steve f Austin says win some games. Don't know that guy but I bet he didn't freak out under pressure. skip-zip
My thought here is simple. If Williams doesn't give us a distinct advantage from here on out, I think it's time to start building for the future. IF Williams gives us a better chance to win a game or two down the stretch, then stick with him. Lets add that playing Pohl is not necessarily building for the future, since I expect a competition next season with some young guys involved, and I'm currently thinking that Franco will have a great chance of winning that job. RootforRoo44
Don't know if anyone noticed, but Dalton eclipsed several program records last week during the Can't game. He's now the program leader for passing touchdowns in a season, completions in a season, completions for a senior, passing yards for a senior, and he's on pace to obliterate the completions per game record. Not too bad. More stats

Give me a little more mobility in our QB and an improved running game....watch out!
zipsfan33
He is pretty good... Last I checked, Peyton Manning wasn't real mobile either. Not that DW13 is anything like Peyton...just saying. Im just glad we have something exciting to watch because the last 3+ years have hurt...bad!!!! Dr Z
DW leads the MAC in passing yards (3,003), passing yards per game (300.3) and touchdown passes (24). The 24 TDs is also a school single-season record (surpassed Luke Getsy's 23 in 2005).
ZippyRulz
With those kinds of numbers, he could have a future playing at the Rubber Bowl Seriously, where would he be with a Jabari Arthur or Dominik Hixon?

He took the chance, came into a program that was going nowhere and got the ball rolling again on the offensive side. Yep,he is a 'system' QB. But he did what the team and TB needed him to do. Good for him. More 'one year and out' recruits. Hopefully not too many. There is no consistency in a program with that type of recruiting. You never know how those guys will perform and the staff is always trying to fill holes. If you have to go JC's or transfers who have at least 2 years left go for it. But,one year wonders need to be used when you are 'on the verge' and need 1 or 2 guys to fill a hole.

MaxZIP
Earth to Terry Bowden: Dalton Williams' eligibility runs out after the 2012 season, TB is desperate for a win. Sad that he is willing to sacrifice future gains for the mere hope of showing he is a game better than I coach.
K92
I don't think anyone has touched on this yet... When the torch was passed to Kyle Pohl Tuesday night, Dalton Williams was less than 200 yards from setting the Zips all-time single-season passing yardage record. It had to have been bittersweet for Dalton, but he was a true leader and went along with what was best for the team going forward. Watching him on the sidelines, he appeared to be as involved and engaged as if he was still playing. On this day of Thanksgiving, I would like to thank DW13 for wanting to be a Zip. True team player and total class individual.
