zipsfan33 Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Anyone worried about losing Chuck? I think if our defensive unit is going to come together it is going to be under him...Thoughts? http://www.sbnation.com/2012/12/31/3821756...ope-chuck-amato Quote
Dr Z Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Not sure I trust an article that claims that Chuck is under Bobby Bowden at Akron??? Butch Davis to Coach FIU Hits Snag Quote
Sergeant Zip Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 South Florida is still interested in Chuck as defensive coordinator since it is still an unfilled position. Quote
LZIp Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Seems like The Chest is trying to get out of Akron the first chance he has. Quote

If Chuck leaves our defensive unit will never come together. Quote
zipsfan33 Posted January 9, 2013 Author Report Posted January 9, 2013 I don't think it is fair college coaches can move laterally, I know you can't do that in the nfl! Quote
Dr Z Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 I know you can't do that in the nfl!I'm pretty sure as long as the team gives permission, they can. Most teams will "block" such a move, but sometimes teams will allow such an interview to take place. Quote
zipsfan33 Posted January 9, 2013 Author Report Posted January 9, 2013 Could the fact that Amato is interviewing around be part of the reason TB gave up his OC duties so he could pay more attention to the defense? Hmmmmmmm Quote
LZIp Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 ^^ maybe. Im not sure I want a guy (Amato) who isnt really committed to building the program. Quote

akzipper Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Think about how much our defense improved under Amato. We went from losing 11 to games in 2011, to only losing 11 games in 2012. Quote

We went from losing 11 to games in 2011, to only losing 11 games in 2012.Your right, it's about wins. I'm not a huge stats guy, but if you look at overall defense, I would guess we improved. I remember TB expressing that one of his biggest concerns on defense was take-aways this season, I would guess that stat is probably up too. PS #1 defense in the NFL is watching the playoffs from their couches this season. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Amato's D gave up 3 points less per game than the previous year. It's progress, but slight. I think Chuck is getting interviewed mainly because he is Chuck Amato and people know who he is and what he's done in the past. I would put it at around a 35% chance that he gets another job before next season. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Amato's D gave up 3 points less per game than the previous year. It's progress, but slight. Gotta love statistics... Didn't opponents need to play their starters the entire game when they played the Zips this year? Were the Zips behind 66-5 in the 3rd quarter of any games this season? Were Caponi and Pressley injured for any period of time? Yeah, it was another 11-loss season. But the Zips were vastly improved in all facets of the game. We are simply digging out of such an unprecedented hole that the progress made appears invisible to all but a few. Quote

End of the day, the only thing that matters is the score. Sure, the defense was much better at a lot of things, but it all boiled down to them giving up 3 less points per game. Quote
Lee Adams Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 I have never been a big Amato fan. Have stated it before here. Especially, since Akron beat him at NCST. Its not too difficult to 'look' like a good coach at FSU. Talent went/goes there just because. He doesn't have the energy or maybe the skill to coach up players at this level. Maybe there was some paying of dues or consideration bringing him in. This program needs a younger position coach that can be more flexible. Quote

More importantly a coach that is truly dedicated on making the program better. Not somebody who thinks he is too good for us. Quote
zipsfan33 Posted January 10, 2013 Author Report Posted January 10, 2013 I think he is a good coordinator...Just as Pat Shurmur is a good coordinator. He certainly is not a good head coach. I just would like to see what he can do with the Zips in 2-3 years of coaching them. Now that he can insert some of "his" guys in lets see what the Chest can do. I dont think he doesn't relate to the players. I am thrilled to have Buckley as part of the staff...did the DB's have a great year.... no way, but does that make Buckley a bad coach? Jury is still out on him I suppose, but I know there is onlt one way for the defense as a whole to go ....and I for one would like to see it happen with Amato manning the ship. Quote

Sergeant Zip Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 Chuck got the USF job... but not Chuck Amato, Chuck Bresnahan did. Quote
