tpsjugglerdude
I hate to say it, but I don's see it happening. I think Akron and OU split their series. Akron has played horrid in Athens the last few years.

Akron has played horrid in Athens the last few years. Agreed. Probably finish with 2-3 losses in the MAC regular season, and 1 loss in the MAC tournament. We always tend to play poorly in Athens and lose to a couple weak teams we should beat. Could very well be a team like Toledo tonight. That could give us with 25 or 26 wins and no automatic bid. This sound vaguely familiar to anyone else?

We will be favored in every game except for the one in Athens. That tells me that we probably will finish with one loss in the regular season, and none in the tournament. GeorgeThomasABJ
http://www.ohio.com/blogs/ua-zips/universi...bility-1.367359 Thanks for the replies. I'm always curious to know what ZipsNation is thinking about this team. They certainly have been a bit schizophrenic, but right now I'm inclined to believe their best basketball is ahead of them. LZIp
Not even going to think about it. Every time I get my hopes up, I get disappointed. Whatever happens, happens. And I hope it will be good enough to make The Dance.
Dave in Green
I think the Zips have the talent to do it but I'm not sure if they have the will and focus to avoid an upset or two along the way. They surprised a lot of people last season by winning the MAC regular season championship for the first time. Running the table is a lot tougher. The 17-1 MAC record posted by Can't in their 2001-2002 Elite 8 season was pretty special, with only a 1-point loss to Buffalo on the road spoiling a perfect MAC run. zippy5
So hard to be perfect. Even if we beat OU twice, there's a good chance we have an off night and someone gets by us. Either way, I'm seeing 1 or 2 losses at worst, which is still amazing. OU is the only team with talent near the same level as ours. Our 7-11 guys are starters on any other MAC team but OU. Quickzips
Call me crazy, but I think it is a distinct possibility. To me, it all hinges on @OU. If the Zips can come out of the Convo with a win then I think we can do it. Who else on the MAC schedule is going to beat us? Central Michigan? BG? EMU? Even on an off night for us we are head and shoulders better than everyone not named OU. We've already passed our other biggest road test @Can't. Frankly, with the way things shape up right now I think 14-2 would even be a bit of a disappointment. 15-1 minimum has to be the expectation right now. Think bigger, right? Think about it this way for a second. Outside of OU and Akron the only team in the conference above .500 after 5 games is Western. Everyone else is 2-3 or 1-4. Western's 2 losses are to Akron and OU. Those 3 teams (WMU, Akron, OU) are 11-0 against the rest of the conference right now. I've been saying it for weeks, but it bears repeating. This is a VERY bad conference right now. Captain Kangaroo
The Zips wll struggle against OU's guards. Abreu can't do it all. And for as much grief as Betancourt is getting, Ibitayo has been almost as bad. He has the unflappable offensive confidence of Derrick Tarver, coupled with the production of an off-night Brett McClannahan. Betancourt needs to slow down. Big time. A panicky point guard who predetermines what he's going to do as he crosses half court is a bad thing. Less Ali Kart, and more patience and poise. Zips fans better pray Abreu stays healthy. And that somehow either CB or DI can step up and give us 8-or-so solid minutes at the point every night. I want this team to achieve its full potential. They can beat 3/4th of the MAC with Betancourt at the point for 30 minutes. Big whup. We have two months for someone to step up at back up PG. We won't be beating any Gonzaga's or Notre Dame's...let alone guard-heavy OU...with Abreu needing to play 39 minutes.

If for each of the 10 non-Ohio games we have a 90% statistical probability of winning, the statistical probability that we will win all 10 is only 35% (.9^10). taxpayer
Unnecessary and premature speculation......let's blow out Buffalo then address the next opponent. It's less exciting but this approach makes each game to be played the most important one on the schedule. I believe the team has developed this attitude and it should eliminate looking ahead of themselves. Get it done one at a time.
zippy5
I would hope the team is taking it one game at a time, but what's wrong with us fans talking about it? Do I need to stay focused so I cheer louder tomorrow night?
Zipmeister
i know i'm new to basketball, but how does one get more than one loss in the MAC tournament? If a team was to win multiple games in the tourney and then it was determined that the team had played an ineligible player in the win(s), that team would have to forfeit the win(s) giving them multiple losses in the tourney. Since you are new to basketball you should not feel bad for not realizing this possibility. Hey, at least you are not crazy. Edit: Just noticed that someone modified this post. The last sentence originally said "Hey, at least you are not crazy like Quickzips." Please note that I would never call someone crazy unless that person asked to be called crazy as Quick did in post #12 in this thread.
