GP1
Interrupted. All in all it is hard to be disappointed with this season. How well we could have done was interrupted though. We had three major interruptions. First, the Diggs issue. We had a great team going into the season and his removal from the team probably interrupted the start of the season. Second, AA. In the end, the AA issue resulted in a loss against Can't and crippled any chances the Zips had against VCU. They win the league against a horrible MAC, but still only went 2-2 without him and were a disaster last night on national TV. Third, the flu. If losing AA wasn't bad enough, losing a senior leader against a defense like VCU really hurt. The AA interruption reminds me a lot of my college days. Think back. You are in a bar talking to a hot girl. Things are going great. It's getting late. You are certain you are about to close the deal and make a short walk back to your apartment with her for some fun. Then, right out of nowhere, your drunk roommate shows up, interrupts your mojo, makes a fool of himself and you. The next thing you know you are heading back to your apartment by yourself to listen to your roommate throw-up for the rest of the night. I'm sure most of us have been both the interrupted and the drunk roommate while in college so we understand how bad an interruption can go down. We never really know what would have happened in any circumstance if matter had changed. We'll never know how good this season could have been if it had not been interrupted. Go Zips! mivid12
stunning -rolling thur the mac until.... -19 game winning streak -development and improvment of some players -the small doses of national love here and there -humiliating, embarassing beat down vs vcu (this one may leave a mark nationally)
Big Zip
Can't do it in one. This wasn't like a real season -- this was like a split season given the circumstances. I'll go with: Impressive and Humbling

hiroad1
Close...... Everything - talent, play, coaching, quality of MAC, arena, fan and student support is "close" to getting to that "next" level everyone seeks, but we're not quite there. Perseverance. That might be the one word going forward. I don't see us making radical changes, and I don't think we can, or should, change leagues. We have to see if KD can keep recruiting on an up-trend and can coach to some post-season wins. KD has talked about a window of opportunity for the program. The next few years will be be very important to Akron athletics in both basketball and football. I wish I were smart enough to suggest what needs to be done, but the department and the administration seem to have the proper focus on success for the programs. zipsfan33
Let us not forget the 3 game suspensions of Tree and Harney Games 1-3 that were handed down the morning of the Coastal Carolina Game! Yikes!
zestycoyote
Typical. I loved watching the team this season. The winning streak was awesome, as was our recovery from Abreu's suspension. That said, we had multiple players suspended (B. McKnight, anyone?) and failed to make any noise in the NCAA Tournament. We had four years to make an impact with a 7-footer that made us stand out from other mid-majors. I think the program will continue to rise, but any progress made with the 19-game winning streak and the tourney berth was lost by getting blown into unidentifiable pieces by VCU on a national stage and losing Zeke. Zip_ME87
Disappointment. You can try to guild this season any way you want, but it was a disappointment. I think most of us expected this to be the year that we would take the next step, and win at least 1 game in the NCAA Tournament. Instead, we lost by the largest margin of any of our NCAA Tournament appearances. We were in the game for about 6.5 minutes. We looked completely unprepared for a team that we knew. As has been noted numerous times on this board, we are in a "crappy" conference. I just can't use a MAC Championship (actually 2) to say we did well. Yes, we had player issues, but part of being a good team is to not have those issues. Sickness is different, but that was really only 1 player. The other 2 don't get significant minutes anyway. You can say I'm being negative, but in my opinion, I'm just stating reality.

K92
Engrossing. This team had this old football guy hooked. First time I ever lived & died basketball. Sure am glad I bought season tickets because I had a ball. Now comes the sad part of the year where I don't get to spend time with my Zips friends until football starts. My wife told me only a crazy person would refer to spring & summer as the sad time of the year.
bigzipguy
You cannot be this depleted at the guard position and expect to even compete against the type of team VCU is.
legendofzippy
Maybe an odd analogy, but this reminds me of when - in football - Florida whipped OSU in the national championship game. Great season, ending in a blowout where you wondered what team you were watching. Ultimately, these memories fade, and Akron still gets regular season and tournament champ banners, plus defensive POY and COY in the MAC, and maybe more honors for Dambrot to come. So last night hurt, but ask any other MAC fan if they'd take our season.
Dr Z
So last night hurt, but ask any other MAC fan if they'd take our season.A lot of MAC fans have had the joy of experiencing the tournament passed round 1 (now round two, whatever). I have not. It's time my school takes that next step. I really don't care if they would "take it" or not. PS I sympathize with you ME87. Blue & Gold
Maybe an odd analogy, but this reminds me of when - in football - Florida whipped OSU in the national championship game. Great season, ending in a blowout where you wondered what team you were watching. I had the same thought. I was on vacation during that OSU-Florida game & when I came home a week later, I asked some of my OSU-honk friends what they had thought of the game (I was shocked myself). They looked at each other & said they hadn't even mentioned it... and it had been over a week. What is there to say. This was bizarre... humbling... embarrassing... What I hate is that many people around here look for reasons not to take UA seriously. This is a big handful of ammunition. OSU doesn't have that problem. ap95@zips.uakron.edu
unfulfilling So much potential. Such a good run. such a bad end. So many what if's. What if Abreu didnt get arrested? What if Q didnt get suspended? What if we didnt draw VCU?

skip-zip
The plus for me has to be the first ever Top-25 Ranking. Other than that, did we do anything that was much different than what we've done for the last 7 seasons?
taxpayer
POSITIVE Oh my, what could have been? Q - been discussed Compliance - shame on the compliance office & shame on the NCAA. UNC gets caught in a major academic CHEATING scandal and DOES NOT GET PENALIZED AT ALL. Further proof of the old saying that the NCAA was so upset at UNC they penalized Akron. We win at CC, beat OK State & play a Tennessee team ripe for a beating. I seriously believe if we beat Ok State in game 1 at PR we win the tournament and already have national attention AA - I still can not believe his action nor timing. I still can't believe our guys & coaches recovered and won the MACChampionship! Sickness - Flu? Food poisoning? Like KD said, snake bit. It would have been a struggle, but come on........ In summary, another step up the ladder. KD said it best, this was his best team. As most of you no doubt have considered though, what might have been? Dave in Green
The plus for me has to be the first ever Top-25 Ranking. Other than that, did we do anything that was much different than what we've done for the last 7 seasons? Winning a second straight MAC regular season championship after having never won one before last season and winning 19 games in a row have already escaped your mind? That speaks volumes. Akron1
Rollercoaster. Start off down, go up, back down, go way way up, drop way way down (really fast), go right back up high, then throw up and back down really fast again and it's over. skip-zip
Winning a second straight MAC regular season championship after having never won one before last season and winning 19 games in a row have already escaped your mind? That speaks volumes. It asked to describe the season. Winning 19 games in a row was great, but in the end, it still resulted in basically a similar number of wins in a season as we've had for the last 7 years. It's funny how you mention the regular season championship. A couple of weeks ago, pretty much everyone on this board found that fact to be pretty insignificant when I posted about how nobody stayed after the Miami game for the net cutting. Dave in Green
@skip-zip, you specifically asked the question whether the Zips did anything that was much different than what they've done for the last 7 seasons. The 19-game winning streak was the longest of the season in college basketball, generated a huge amount of national publicity and helped get the Zips their top 25 ranking. The regular season championship is described by Coach Dambrot as the "little prize" with the MAC tournament championship being the "big prize." This was the first time the Zips ever won both prizes. As Zips fans, we can choose to credit the team for those accomplishments or we can choose to trivialize them according to our individual dispositions.
