Clint Trickett is probably the skinniest QB I have ever seen in college football. Would have to say he has the build of most kickers.

I think it would be tough to get a 5th-year transfer. Most likely if they are leaving their current school, they are looking for a starting position. The impression I get is that Bowden wants someone to push Pohl not take his position.

If that "impression" is true, I agree that you won't find a player like him transferring here.

Do we have confirmation on this? Where did you hear that report from?

Zach has reliable sources from my observations.

Sorry to hear. Did Cunningham play? Name doesnt sound familiar. Will it open up a scholarship?

Benny Cunningham is Zips cornerback Seth Cunningham's younger brother.

And if you don't want to take my word for it, Benny posted the news himself on Twitter. Says he's going on a medical scholarship.

Was recruited by Ivy schools and couldn't crack the lineup at Colorado. Ummmmm.

He surprised some by transferring despite finishing the spring as Colorado's co-starter alongside Connor Wood.

Kyle needs to be pushed and the Zips need a viable backup in case he gets hurt. I don't think anyone is saying this guy is the next coming. Besides, DW13 couldn't even crack the lineup for FCS Stepen F Austin, right?

This is fantastic news. KP16 needs a capable backup. :gun:

Anyone at the spring game could tell we'd be 0-12 if any of the present back up QB's were starting. It was Charlie Frye being backed up by Micah Fahler and Jon Gill - Part II.

Odd that this kid would leave a starting job in Colorado to be a back up for the Zips? The quote '71: "Hmmmm..."

I mean there is a possibility he could be a starter. I'll go as far as to say he is a true D1 player (which is better than any other back up we have). He was named "co-starter" of a 1-11 team that lost its real starter in the Spring with a torn ACL. It's a good thing, but I wouldnt call him a "big time coup", although it does fill a big void.

So, you think this guy is leaving a very possible starting gig at Colorado to be a good and supportive soldier in a bench role at a MAC school with a 1-11 record?

And what is so good about Colorado? You do realize Colorado is one of the worst programs along with Akron, but at least Akron has some upside. Obviously he is going to try to be the starter, but there are many reasons besides the football team he could be coming here. It was mentioned he was looking at Ivy league schools, and had offers to Ivy League schools coming out of high school, so he is very smart. I'd assume UA has a good reputation in whatever graduate degree he is planning to pursue.

I'm wondering and maybe I'm absolutely crazy but he might think Akron has a better chance at a bowl game than Colorado. I assume he believes he'll be the starter and playing against the MAC would provide him with a better change at bowl eligibility than starting at Colorado and playing in the PAC-12.

However slim that hope may be I would guess he's probably right. Six wins at Akron has to be easier than six wins at Colorado.

I meant that it was a big-time coup for the Zips in the sense that prior to Coach Bowden UA didn't have a history of attracting quality transfers with academic achievements that allow them to play immediately with two years of eligibility remaining. It's hard to evaluate just how good Hirschman is because he's lost a lot of PT with broken metatarsal bones in both feet in consecutive seasons and had three surgeries. Hopefully this is not an ongoing problem. His HS ratings were solid though not brilliant:

HIGH SCHOOL-He earned All-Region honors from PrepStar and SuperPrep, which ranked him as the No. 58 player from California, Hawai'i and Nevada and the eighth quarterback on that list. He was ranked the No. 26 quarterback by ESPN, No. 42 by Scout.com and the No. 48 pro-style quarterback by Rivals.com. .....

No, I think this guy is coming in to try and earn a starting position at Akron. I highly doubt if Coach Bowden ever gives anyone any assurances beyond a fair shot to prove themselves.

Nick is probably confident he can rise to the top of the depth chart and throw for a lot of yards here at Akron, ala DW13.

I wish all the best to Nick and hope he can reach his full potential here. However, I think it will be hard for him to come in and have the kind of success Dalton had last year. Perhaps the Zips will catch lightning in a bottle again with a transfer QB, but the odds definitely have to be long on that.

The number one thing I hope to see from Nick is the total team-player/leader/Zip4Life persona that Dalton showed us last year.

The best man will start. I think we can all agree that Coach Bowden & Co. want to put the Zips in the best position possible to win some games this year. I certainly want the best players on the field for the Zips, but I gotta tell ya, I am rooting hard for Kyle Pohl.

His completion percentage is listed at 59.1% for last season, but it would jump to 66.7% if passes completed to members of opposing teams were counted in the stat.
