GoZips
Found the first of several annual basketball analysis magazines at Buehler's. Sporting News has a different take on the Zips than College Sports Madness. Where CSM rated the Zips fourth in the conference SN ranks the Zips as the best in conference and the team to beat. Full page picture of Tree skying over a hapless Owho defender in the MAC Championship game. Suitable for framing. Tree's colorful socks clearly shown. Buffalo picked second in the East with Toledo first over all in the West. Most of the "ink" went to the Zips. Kant rated fourth behind rebuilding Owho. Western and Eastern second and third in the west. Bulls beat writer was author. Note that he picked Javon "I play dirty" McCrea as the MAC POTY. Not me, I pick Demetrius Treadwell. Zipmeister
College Sports Madness picks... I believe it's a good thing that some of the rating services think that not all the teams in the MAC West will suck during the upcoming season. GoZips
Lindy's picks the Zips to win the East. Toledo to win the West. And, they pick Toledo to win the MAC tournament to earn the trip the dance. Ain't happening. The Zips go dancing.
ksu sucks
I'm surprised that everyone is so high on Toledo. They didn't impress me much last season. I expect them to be contenders but I didn't expect them to be preseason favorites.

The interesting thing about the depth chart they posted is that we only have ONE senior, based on remaining eligibility. Everyone comes back next year except Q. Everyone comes back next year except Q. Overall their analysis is pretty good. Quincy Diggs is likely to be the starter at the shooting guard position. Melo is in a fight regarding who earns the starting point guard slot. Other than Big Dog, most or even all the other freshmen face a red shirt. Don't get me wrong; the freshmen are truly talented. The depth of this team is scary.

But put them in street clothes, and the whole world changes. We need their help NOW!
Dave in Green
@Z.I.P., you don't need any sources to do the simple math. The Zips have 9 senior, junior and sophomore scholarship players on the roster (Diggs, Treadwell, Harney, Forsythe, Kretzer, McAdams, Evans, Betancourt and Ibitayo. That's a pretty deep rotation right there. Big Dog is the most likely freshman to break into the rotation due to giving the Zips a quality backup true center, a luxury that most MAC-level teams don't have. That would make a 10-man rotation. Each of the other 3 freshmen would have to clearly outperform one of the veterans in order to have any shot at meaningful PT. Is it worth burning a year of eligibility for players who might have a lot more to contribute for the 4 seasons following a redshirt? Isn't there a risk that someone like Tree could do a Brian Wagner next year and play for some "prestigious" university while getting his Masters Degree? I can't imagine too many DI teams would not grab him. So if we redshirt someone and he turns out to be a really good player, don't we risk losing a year? The problem is we're so (over)loaded at the wings, especially the three spot. Do you not believe that BJ is very capable of competing with Nick and Q.? If the two seniors (well, I suppose Harney is a fourth-year Jr, but anyway...) are head and shoulders above Gladden, then either they have improved markedly, or Gladden isn't what we have been promised. Jus' sayin'.

Hilltopper
I spoke to Tree and Nick about this very subject on Tuesday. Both of them are on track to graduate. Both of them are planning on playing for the Zips next season and love it here.

If so, they will not have their degree until after their 4 years of eligibility has expired. No transfer option exists.
GoZips
People are forgetting that Nick and Tree are actually only juniors academically. Tree is likely a high NBA draft pick after his senior campaign. Quincy is working his tail off with hope of getting picked in the next NBA draft. If he plays well he has a better chance than Zeke. The freshmen are a "stud" class. Sell none of them short. However, they are Freshmen competing for playing time against a group of talented, veteran players. Their time to shine is in the future. Treadwell is the best player in the conference. Due to the pecking order rule; Javon McCrea is a senior and Tree is a Junior. The "rabbit puncher" will get the votes for POY from the media wonks. Official practice begins Tuesday, October first. Then it will all start to be sorted out. side note: The Freshmen brought a lot of individual talent to the team. How well they have learned to play together, especially on the defensive side of the ball is bringing smiles to the coaching staff.

I love our team but if we have two potential NBA draft picks, we better at minimum be a top 25 team and probably an elite 8 team. Both are excellent players but if by high pick, you mean in thre first round, I just can't see it, there are a lot of excellent players out there. I'd love it but I'm not convinced yet. And i definitely feel that Tree is worthy of the high pick prediction he received. I really think u will agree after watching a portion of this season. He's got "IT". And Q is an extreme talent also...may not go first round but there is room in the league for guys like him...LET'S GO!!
