LZIp
Based on attendance, why would they think anybody cared. Attendance shows that Akron is by far the most popular sport at UA. So that's where most of the effort should be placed. If your job is to cover the Zips, then do it. That's my opinion.
K92
Based on attendance, why would they think anybody cared. Point taken, but what kind of upside can we, as Zips fans, ever realistically hope for in attendance growth? An 9-0 #20 ranked NIU took on 9-1 Ball State tonight. Can't get much more of an appealing MAC match up than that. Attendance: 18,290 I fear our dreams of a sold-out Info may be pipe dreams. GP1
Here is my take on recruiting. We went through the Ianello dark days when we couldn't win a MAC game. In order to lose every MAC game, your school must have zero talent (did anyone see Miami play last night...zero talent). We have two MAC wins this season and should have a third after the next game. That tells me the talent is better. It's visibly better when we watch games. We will get some good kids from Ohio next season. How do I know that? Well, Zach thinks nobody in Ohio wants to play for Akron. That's enough evidence for me to know we will have a good recruiting class from Ohio. I don't know how much the person who told me this really knows, but he lives in Florida and says Bowden has been seen around Florida high schools and has a great list of contacts he can draw from. Maybe he can pluck a couple of good players from there. After this season, the talent level on the team will be good enough to expect six wins next season. No excuses next year. Six wins and a bowl. The base talent will be there. Execution on the part of the players and coaches will be critical.
legendofzippy
I'm not sure how much it would help recruiting, but we do have two guys contributing to the Panthers right now, who are looking more and more like a team that could make a Super Bowl run. So I'll be pulling for them to come out of the NFC. It would be great for those guys obviously, but it certainly couldn't hurt the recruiting pitch. LZIp
? Is it not a fact that Akron football games have a much greater attendance than any other sport?
Captain Kangaroo
First, you don't know who 3/4th of out class will be because we haven't landed them yet. You want them to predict the future and tell us who will commit? Second, we're going after just about every D-I prospect you can name. The offers are out there. Absolutely nobody from Ohio wants to play for Akron. Strong, inaccurate words.
Captain Kangaroo
The assertion that we're in some sort of recruiting peril is laughable. Bowden didn't get the HC job at UA until late December, and had a solid Year #1 recruiting class. Year #2 added a ton more talent. Now he has 7 kids committed in early November of Year #3, and people fret? Seriously? And the people that whine about the local HS kids...give me a break. We have Grice, Bickley, Brumbaugh, Pratt...Lane, Pittman and Moore will be playing next year...we do fine locally. And the kids from Florida and southern Ohio are panning out just fine. Pennsylvania too. Fretting over Zips recruiting in November is flat-out insane. Fretting over not getting local kids is worse. What has Bowden done, or not done recruiting-wise, to not have faith in the guy? The internet recruiting sites generate nothing but a sea of Chicken Littles. Strong, accurate words. That is beyond our control if we end up with six to eight wins. Toledo is staying home at 7-5, a couple years ago when Temple was in the MAC they stayed home at 8-4. Dave in Green
6 wins = bowl eligible. Here's reality: Left out Nine teams were bowl-eligible but did not receive an invitation to a bowl. Western Kentucky had the best record to be left out at 8-4. Four other 6-6 Sun Belt teams were also left out: Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, Troy, and Texas State. Toledo was left out with a 7-5 record, and fellow MAC team Central Michigan (6-6) also missed out. San Jose State and Florida Atlantic also did not receive bowl bids despite being bowl-eligible at 6-6.

LZIp
I know this isn't much help because I forget the name (damn alcohol), but I was told a JUCO DB from Mississippi signed his LOI to play for the Zips today. NIU was one of the schools we beat out.

Looks pretty impressive to me. You'll just have to take my word that we beat out NIU for him since there seems to be no public info on that.
