Captain Kangaroo
This is a legitimate question...why does Elton always disrespect the Zips? Does anyone have any insight on this topic? IMO - He wants to cover a big time conference, and he's stuck with the MAC and Horizon. So he's bitter, old and cranky. If the Zips, or any other MAC program really turned into the "Gonzaga of the East," he'd be all over it. He's also old enough to remember when Ball State, Miami, K.e.n.t. etc were legit Top 25 teams. He Thinks Bigger, and is bitter that the MAC ain't what it used to be. So my diagnosis is: "Bittercrankyelderitis." The only cure is a Zips run in the NCAA's. Dave in Green
In addition to having the same starting 5 for all 16 games, Toledo has 4 players off the bench who all average double-digit minutes and who have also played in all 16 games. How many teams in the country have had the same 9-player rotation for every game they've played? While the 4 subs together average a modest 17 points per game, one of them is the team's 3rd leading rebounder. So while Toledo's bench is not as strong as the Zips bench, it should not be underestimated.

Zips Win!
The Zips' advantages: The Zips know how to win. The Zips are at home. Big crowd. Toledo's defense isn't anything special. The Zips outside shooting percentage is very high when they don't have a hand in their face. "Harney 20 Rule" is in effect. Forsythe continues to play with energy. No one at the mid-major level has been able to counteract Tree. Toledo's Advantages: They have a star that can pile up a ton of points. The Zips historically let opposing big-time scorers do what they want. Anyone's press ruins the Zips and creates buckets of turnovers. Toledo's will do the same. When Betancourt or Evans are on the court, it is 6-on-4 in Toledo's favor. The Zips will struggle in a close game due to the well-discussed FT shooting and turnovers. Winning in double OT at OU is no fluke. If Diggs can slow Pearson down, the Zips should win. Harney's defense on UT's guards will be the difference in the game!!! MDZip
Thought we were the better rebounding team and that Toledo couldn't play defense? No answer for Weatherspoon and another unforced turnover fest. Rockets have 11 offensive rebounds in the first half. Zips don't even gave that in total rebounds. Outrebounded 22-10. Ugh. tomzip
Can we seriously get a rebound Toledo looks like a team that can make noise in an NCAA game, Akron not so much. Can we scour the country for a legitimate point guard who can score next year?

tomzip
What is with the JV mixes KD is using? What's the worst MAC home loss under KD? anyone know? zippy_ua_00
This years zips version is extremely frustrating. We dont play great at a place that is almost impossible to win and we do, then we follow it with a performance like we are today is just infuriating
Quickzips
Have to keep pressuring Toledo. The only time they have struggled all game is when we've thrown pressure at them. Don't back off of it these last 8 minutes and we MIGHT have a chance at a comeback.

Quickzips
We can overcome a lot if Diggs is playing well. Today his shot is way off. Hence we are struggling.
tomzip
We can overcome a lot if Diggs is playing well. Today his shot is way off. Hence we are struggling. I dunno, Toledo has a swagger about them or a drive to say, "not this year Akron"..this game really hasn't been close all day. Akron had a good run in the first half to go up by 4, since then, not so much. Look at the ESPN gamecast with the lines, Toledo in command for the most part at the JAR. Our rebounding sucks, I do miss the big guy in the middle, took that for granted at times.
GP1
That was a thorough beating and it was no fluke. Just one question. Who is the old guy behind the bench who keeps yelling, "Run the dog gone pick and roll Keith!"?
Dave in Green
You know it's not a normal game day when you're still drinking your morning coffee on the way to the JAR. Then there was the game. It was like watching a state-of-the-art Formula One car racing a cobbled-together jalopy from Barberton Speedway. No question that Toledo is a complete team with a lot of stability that has talented players at every position who play together with great chemistry. A lot of the damage today came from their PG, which only makes it all the more painful how weak the Zips are at that position. I'll give the Zips credit for having only 2 more turnovers and 1 less assist than Toledo in the game. But the killer was being outrebounded by 14. This Zips team can't win if they're outrebounded that badly. Toledo has the look of OU's Sweet 16 team. If they get to the NCAA tournament, they could pull an upset or two. Having said that, I don't think they're a lock to win the MAC tournament. WMU and Buffalo have already exposed the Rockets as being vulnerable. The Zips will need a lot more intensity and a little luck to beat Toledo if they meet again at the Q. Then again, Coach Dambrot has a great track record for getting his teams to the championship game at the Q. If the Zips and Rockets should meet for the title, there's always the possibility of a shocker like the one the Zips pulled on the Kitties last season. The season is far from over. Time to suck it up and play better in the 14 remaining regular season MAC games. Seeding for the MAC tournament is a big deal.
UAZip0510
Pros Today - A lot of this was based on effort (fixable) - Treadwell kept playing hard all game - I still have full confidence we can beat this team (and any other team) in Cleveland Cons Today - A lot of this was based on effort (why wasn't it there?) - Awful, awful rebounding - Forsythe played with no confidence and little effort...he was awful - Jake/Reggie - 4-13 from deep combined - Nyles/Melo - 0 points combined - Quincy couldn't get going
phil
Can anyone tell me when Nile Evens last scored a basket. He is playing with no confidence and not even trying to get a shot. Meanwhile, Julous Brown is everything you need in a point guard. He can beat his defender and nice jump shot. He creates space using his quickness and movement without the ball. This is a tough loss. Our 3 point shooting Kretzer, kept us in the game the first half. When Q picked up 2 fouls, Keith and Bentacourt and Evens both playing at the same time with Big Dog in the middle. The Toledo spread when to 10 and they never looked back. Having Evens and Bentacourt in at the same time is a recipe for disaster. Would have kept Q in. This team has little depth. Big Dog did not look good today. Pat did not look good today. .I think they had one rebound between the two of them. Mcadams did not look good after have 3 solid gamees. This team needs to play better. I cannot remember the last time we had a double digit loss at home.
