Are saying that if Akron starts winning, people will attend more games? Are you implying people don't want to waste 4 hours watching terrible football? I just find those thoughts impossible to believe. Great point. Evidence of this is supported by the packed house at UA basketball games Edited November 4, 2017 by a-zip 1 Quote

I'll say it for the 100th time. People won't flock to Akron Zips sporting events because we're winning more games. They will start flocking to Akron Zips sporting events when we're winning games that matter. Edited October 13, 2017 by skip-zip 1 Quote

Evidenced of this is supported by the packed house at UA basketball games The JAR is always a little more packed when the Zips are receiving AP votes and national recognition compared to when it isn't. The program never did enough in March to get the community to buy-in. Consistently being a 9-11 win football team won't fill Infocision, which was built a little too big IMO, but getting to a real 15k attendance average would totally be feasible. Quote

Now don't say I never do anything for you. Basketball rarely draws like football. Akron football plays a weak schedule and loses against good teams. Look ok at the crowds soccerreceived when we were in the NC hunt. Quote

Cykron Posted October 13, 2017 Report Posted October 13, 2017 (edited) Attendance at football games is a mindset. And once it is lost, it is hard to recover. They are experiencing that in Iowa City. They went 12-0 in the regular season, but still aren't selling out, partly because they wrapped the undefeated season with 5 losses (at the end of that season and the previous season). A 12-5 record that includes losing all the important games has really taken a toll on their fans. On the other hand, humble brag, we will have at least 40,000 butts in seats in the rain tomorrow in Ames as we play a bottom-feeder Kansas team. And not just because we beat Oklahoma last week. Going to home games is just what we do. No matter what, we will have a great tailgate and stadium atmosphere when you come to town next year. Edited October 13, 2017 by Cykron Quote

IDK who you're arguing with? Quote

She laughed as you could count the people in the stands across the way from the cameras. It reminded me of a game at the Rubber Bowl years ago. My dad always bought 4 season tickets each year (yes he was the one!). During one season (I'm assuming a year they were good, so during the Steve Cockerham days) all of us in attendance were asked to move to the East side of the field so with the cameras on the west it would look like the Bowl was full. Although I expected the crowd, it was still disappointing to see. Quote
K92 Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 What is the best case attendance scenario if the Zips win in Oxford setting up the biggest game in Infocision ever (and it ain’t even close) versus Ohio? Quote
RowdyZip Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 If it's 78 and sunny that day, and all NE Ohio cancels work the following morning, and they're offering buy one get 3 free....10k butts in seats. 2 1 Quote

(3k OU + 3k UA) I assume they're pull the free scholarship deal for the students, or some other similar promo. I'm done for 2017 Zips games unless it's Detroit, or a bowl game. Work obligations. K92 Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 I know it’s a big “if” that it even happens, but the thought of the kids playing the biggest game of their career in front of a pitiful crowd makes me very sad. 2 Quote

I thought this during the Buffalo game. Home field advantage has to turn into a disadvantage at that point. I recall playing basketball in high school and getting amped for a huge game mid-winter and coming out of the locker room to 70 people. Hopefully D1 athletes can "clear the mechanism" and work past it. 2 Quote
