UA to Renovate the JAR

The voters screamed NO to funding an arena in 2014.  It was going to go on the ballot with a levy for the police 911 and dispatch system but there was a such an outcry the arena portion was dropped.  Nothing has changed.  On top of that, the current athletic program is costing each UA student an average of over $1000.   No money from the public + no more money from tuition= a bad formula for a new arena.  I also think the less than stellar crowds at our lovely football facility maybe deter potential corporate investors as they'll wonder what benefit Infocision is getting out of having their names mentioned on random Tuesday nights in November on ESPN12.

I'm going to guess corporate dollars (selling naming rights) and private donations. No way is tax dollars going to get spent on renovating the JAR.

Especially since we were told last week that only 8,170 city residents working in the city earn more than $40,000/ yr

Isnt it sickening to see that Cleveland is going to spend 140 Million to renovate Quicken Loans arena ( totally unnecessary) yet we cant even get a facelift of the JAR to keep Coach D!  This is the 3rd multi million dollar renovation of the Q since it was built in 1994.

Why has nobody ever thought of selling the naming rights to the arena (are we even allowed)? Probably won't get a ton of money relative to what other arenas get, but everything helps. Got to be a better solution than having an arena named after a Governor best known for the Kent State shooting. Just seems like an easy way to raise money, assuming UA is allowed to rename.

FirstEnergy Stadium underwent a $120 million renovation last year. At least Quicken Loans Arena is used all the time. FirstEnergy is positively vacant.

I believe the Browns paid for all of it up front and will get a fraction back from the city over time. Does Summit County have a sin tax?

Unless we can find about 20 people who each have the same 5 Million, and all of them allocate it to an Arena, then we are in business :thumb:

its a shame the perception is we can't.

Its also a shame we have no problem laughing at ourselves.
How can we build on something when we don't have faith in ourselves.

Ask LeBron for the money.  After all, he loves the Zips.
