Captain Kangaroo Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 I suspect that a big reason for Bowden's reliance on unorthodox signing classes (lots of transfers coming in with different eligibility remaining, greyshirts, blue shirts, etc.) is to try and stabilize the roster between graduating classes.I think he's trying to win. I doubt "stabilizing the roster" in high on his priority list. 1 Quote
a-zip Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 I think he's trying to win. I doubt "stabilizing the roster" in high on his priority list.Yup! It's the chicken and the egg right now. He needs to show people (top recruits in particular) that he is still the man. I am quite sure nobody was more disappointed in not going to a bowl game last year. That would have shown major progress and I bet would have landed a few more recruits. He needs to WIN and show some of the "Bowden Magic". 1 Quote
RACER Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 to say our talent level has not gone up is dumb satement. R.I. left tb one of theworst defensive teams in d-1 football.we had the #1 defense in the mac last year.thanks to the chest.this defense may even be better this year with the transfers.i could care less about how our rankings are.they don't take accountthe transfers coming in.we had tommy brown and pittman came in fromOSU.both played well. pittman was four star player.marcus coming from osu was a three star player.coe was a four star player.the lb transfer from wsu was a three star player.you see teams from the nfl go from worst to first in the divison all the time.the reason usually is winning the turnover battle.the reason we lost this yearis our offense turned the ball over, and to many penalites on both sides of the ball.the chest is doing his job on defense.tb needs to find a coach on offenseto fix the problems.it would be nice have a rb that is not also on our d-line.maybe our qb had some injury problems, and should not have been playing the lastfew games.we need to get the qb position setteld in the spring.less turnovers/less penalites.then we will start having 8-4 seasons. Dr Z Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 I think its hard to measure a class when they get here, easier to do when a class leaves. Is this a sign of "progress" in the progum?"I come in here my freshman year and I saw one scout, to see eleven or more today is like god blessing us" Jawon ChisholmI think it's important for a talented recruit to see that he has a chance to reach the next level here at Akron. This is one way. Start at the three minute mark. 1 Quote

How does he wind up going to Miami? Wow.Major academic issues. Couldn't qualify at WVU, but somehow can get into Miami. He was a part of this: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/highschool/football/broward/fl-miramar-grade-manipulation-20141125-story.htmlTransferred somewhere else and committed to WVU, but couldn't get grades up to NCAA standards. It's a stretch to think he'll ever see the field. Quote

zipsoutsider Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 It sounds like ongoing investigations into his HS and WVU somehow played into it, but the articles were not clear. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) Question from afar: What has happened to Mykel Traylor-Bennett? Is he still on the team? Was a top WR as a sophomore, but missing in action this season. Edited November 24, 2015 by Z.I.P. Quote

Balsy Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 I almost forgot about MTB1! Shame on me. This team has the opportunity to be very polished next year in the passing game, more so than any other year in recent history. Woodson having an entire off season as the starter, Lane and Wolf have developed into good options, and next year we should have MTB1 and Michael Means back from injury. I remember Means looking promising in the spring game. Quote
Jrship35 Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 I'm interested to hear from the 7 folks that voted dissatisfied, to hear their opinions with one game left in the regular season (and 2 more overall !!! ) ........... The Freshmen that have logged playing time (Boxen, Bell, Grant, Edwards, Cooper) seem to have made contributions with good promise. I believe the other 12 (or most) were all redshirted. Coach Sleeve has said very positive things about their gains in the weight room and another coach has told me that they have done a great job on scout team all year. Both seem very happy with the class 2 more wins will make them the winningest Freshman class in 30 years (LOL ) ............... (1985 was 8-4, 7-6 in 2005 and 7-5 in 2003) If I had to vote again right now, I would still vote somewhat satisfied based on what I have seen and heard from the coaches .......... A full off season with Coach Sleeve and a Spring practice session and I think we will all be satisfied. IMHO 1 Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Medical red shirt correct ? He get's his junior year back ?He didn't redshirt as a Freshman, so can use 2015 as a redshirt season. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Interesting to see former Zips commit Jacob Harrison is now committed to Navy. Good for him. Quote

It looks like this is Bowden's best class since he has been here based on how they are contributing as freshman. I think it was last year that only one or two players weren't red shirted. Thats a little bit different this year....I don't know why, but I thought Boxen was a R-Freshman...Medical red shirt correct ? He get's his junior year back ?I hope I'm wrong, but I've got a feeling we may not see him again. Just a gut feeling. His 1st two years were a disappointment considering his hype, the broken-wrist and being out for the season thing seems weird to me. It happened pretty early in training camp if I'm not mistaken and Hakeen Lawrence took his number..just seems weird, but pure speculation on my part. Quote
Jrship35 Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Boxen was a gray shirt last year (I believe) ....... true freshman this yearAnd a beast !! IMHO (LOL), I believe he will adequately (I said adequately) fill Rodney Coe's spot, with a better work ethic and great upside !! No disrespect to Coe, just an opinion 1 Quote
zipsoutsider Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 We may also get a medical redshirt for WR Michaelee Harris, who hurt his foot the first day of practice, IIRC. Not sure what his life plans are, but he is still listed on the roster. Quote

I, too, have been disappointed with his performance so far. Too many drops and he's not killing anyone with his speed. If Jerome Lane can have a nice set of hands, someone like Mykel should too.
