Zip vs. Can't State 3-6-15

Recommended Posts

Specifically, a second Miami player ran over to double Big Dog the second he put the ball on the floor. By the time Big Dog was into his second dribble, he was tightly double-covered and had trouble with the outlet pass. The way to overcome that is for Big Dog to plan his pass to come after a single dribble. That way the second coverage player is about halfway between the man he was covering and Big Dog. The player who's left unguarded should immediately break for the basket and be the primary target for a pass from Big Dog. Quick adjustments like that will break down that kind of double coverage.

Yes, a quick pass to an open player before the 2nd defender can get to the post player (and before a switch can occur) is the perfect scenario. That's why spacing is so important to teams who love to play the inside-out game.

On paper, it can work when you have a guy who can pass like Big Dog. The problem is that guys are pretty fast at this level. Good defensive teams would immediately focus on the uncovered player who's defender left him to double team on that side of the court. This is why the open shot out of a double team is often not found until the ball comes out of the double team and is rotated around to the other side of the floor.

Yep, there's a counter to every move and a counter for every counter. The players with quick reactions who are basketball savvy and make the best adjustments faster than their opponents are the ones who usually come out on top. One of my concerns about the Zips this season has been that they often seem to be a half step behind on adjustments and counter-adjustments, with the result that opponents burn them too often on both offense and defense. Noah is an example of a player who sees the court like a chess board and is always playing out the game in his mind a few moves ahead.

Big Dog can barely last 20 minutes. If Pat can give us 8 minutes, take it. There is no tomorrow. It's K.e.n.t.

Joe Dunn had Brunswick HS's basketball coach on today. Said Pat might try to play tonight.

On Joe's Twitter account he said the coach said he might try to play Monday, not tonight.

Really LOUD in here.

Makes you wish the JAR would get this loud...students are cheering loud chants...it's like being on the court in good seats makes you want to be in the game

Can't students are putting the rowdies to shame.

Also, I realized Big Dog has no left hand. At about the 8 min mark, he posted up and went one way where he beat his guy, but then pivoted back to shoot the ball right handed. Was guarded and missed the shot.

Honestly, I go to Can't games once in a while & the only time they get "good" student turn out is for the Akron game.

If we ever ended our rivalry with Can't I don't know what they'd do.

Who cares?

valiant effort Zips, but looks as if we will come up just short. As we have so many times this season.
