Willie Jackson

Recommended Posts

The really good news here.

If Willie commits to UA, we will be 60% of the way towards having the Jackson 5.

Antino Jackson

Aaron Jackson

Willie Jackson

Wonder if Tito and Jermaine have anything left in the tank.

When Akron was beaten by Detroit in OT at the buzzer in Honolulu in 1990, the game-winning bucket was scored by Michael Jackson (who I think was an ass't coach recently at CMU). The next days paper headlined, "Titans Win in a Thriller".

Jackson will announce to Mizzou today.

On the bright side, he may be back on the market in March when Kim Anderson is fired. Sounds like he is on the hot seat and the team, on paper, doesn't look improved from last year.

Also, while Akron missed on Jackson (for now), it looks like former St. Edward standout Kipper Nichols is going to transfer back to NEO, due to family reasons. He committed to Tulane over a bunch of high majors, due to Tulane assistant Anthony Wilkins, who is a Cleveland native. Tulane granted him a release earlier today.

I'm guessing he ends up at Cleveland State with his former AAU teammate Jibiri Blount, but maybe Akron can make a push if they have the room (he was also an AAU teammate of Josh Williams). Nichols is probably looking for a hardship to play right away (or would he even need a hardship since he was released and was an incoming freshman?) Anyway, he will probably be looking to play right away and Akron doesn't have a scholarship open. He would have to pay his way this year and could take Jackson's scholarship after, since they play the same position.

Btw, I'm not sure if either CSU (which has 17 players on its roster) or Can't have an open scholarship, either.

Big name teams in big new arenas can also have attendance problems.

Missouri basketball has endured dramatic attendance decline

That is part of the reason Jackson (and his family who is supposedly moving to Columbia) are taking a pretty big leap of faith in Kim Anderson.

I'm fairly intune with what is going on with that program because my buddy who I talk hoops with quite a bit is a big time Mizzou supporter. Both the recruiting and support has slipped since Anderson was essentially rushed in to coach after Frank Haith bolted to Tulsa. Anderson's first two classes have been mediocre, but to be fair, the first one was on short notice, but he did keep Jakeenan Gant committed (a top 100 Haith recruit). Jackson is a very good prospect (probably under ranked) and should help Anderson. Problem is, he is a 2016 kid. If Mizzou has another 8-10 win season and attendance (which has always been good) slips further, Anderson will be gone before Jackson ever gets there.

His hire was controversial to begin with. Most hated it, but he had the support of some of the old money boosters, since he Anderson was a Mizzou guy and a Norm Stewart disciple. If he loses that support, he is toast.

For Jackson's sake, I hope he fell in love with the school and that is the reason he committed. If not, like I alluded to before, he may have a new home sooner than later if the new coach that comes in wants to clean house and bring his guys in.

Whether or not Jackson ever ends up at Akron is hardly set in stone, but I have a feeling this thread will get bumped sometime in the next couple of years since KD isn't going anywhere and Jackson has some sort of relationship with the Akron program, and Akron may have finished No. 2 in the race to land him... Saw on Twitter his top three were Mizzou, Akron and BC (Jim Christian factor, and history shows Christian is hardly a lock to be at BC for the long haul).

With all that said, I actually hope I'm wrong and Anderson turns it around and Jackson has a nice career there and winds up in the NBA. I've found myself rooting for Mizzou due to my buddy (who I've also converted into a Zips fan). While he was happy Mizzou landed him, he was very tempered by the commitment due to the uncertainty within the program.

I debated whether or not to post this, but will in hoping it stays civil. But you thought the UA budget stuff was a mess, does anybody want to walk into this mess:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14078494/missouri-tigers-football-players-strike-embattled-tim-wolfe-resigns

Only reason I'm posting this is because I chatted with my Mizzou grad friend. He believes this is a real issue that the university must address.

Probably too late since Akron is full, but I wonder if Jackson, especially if his family plans to move to Columbia, wants to potentially walk into this ... And that's not even counting Kim Anderson's short leash.

I called this one. Willie Jackson is transferring and word is Frankie Hughes will also announce he is transferring after the season. I expect both to end up in Northeast Ohio ... Which school is the question.

We were runner-up before...

Let's hope we have some schollies available! Or atleast make some room B)

We don't have any schollies for next year, but he'd have to sit out next year d/t transfer rule, right?

The following year we should have 4 schollies open up: Noah, Antino, Aaron & Craig.

Wonder if he'd be willing to pay his own way to school for a year while he sits out & get a schollie the following season?

Their coach also mentions Frankie Hughes.  Apparently Frankie was held out of the game d/t the fact he didn't return from Cleveland "in a timely manner."  So it's sounds like WadZips is, once again, right on both accounts.  Sounds as if Frankie's rather disgruntled.

Great, prescient calls, WadZip!

Two posts above I posted a tweet by Daniel Utomi acknowledging Willie's transfer, so it appears Willie's got a relationship w/ at least one current Zip player.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Willie!!!  Keeping my fingers crossed for Frankie!!!     I can't tie my shoes!

By leaving now, Willie will be eligible to play for his new school around this time next season.  As for the open scholarship, they'll figure it out if needed.  KD said he'd never let a McCollum situation happen again. Jackson will be special!

Yes!

Tim Rogers is definitely reputable, but it looks like he jumped the gun (if Jackson's mother is indeed disputing it).

You can read my post from Sept. 23, 2015, for background on how I've gotten my information on Jackson (and Frankie Hughes). Outside of Kim Anderson still having a job (which he is for sure done after the season ... and supposedly Missouri is going to break the bank for a new coach to the tune of 3-plus million a year), everything else is playing out almost exactly how I thought/feared it would for him in Columbia.

Still, the fact that Akron was runner up for Jackson and we know that Keith Dambrot isn't going anywhere, makes me believe that Jackson indeed will come to Akron. It just makes too much sense. It did back in 2015, but he fell for the allure of the SEC instead of situation.

What do you think about Hughes?! I want him just as much. He was already the 2nd leading scorer for Missouri as a freshman.

Hopefully, there is room for both of them, because both can absolutely help this team. However, if it's a one or the other, I'm going Jackson. He is more versatile in that he can play on the perimeter or in the post (though, the fact he has almost exclusively played in the post at Missouri is probably part of the reason he has already made the decision to transfer.)

Plus, while I think Hughes has the potential to be a good shooter down the road, he has not shown to be one yet. He's scoring a lot of points because he's taking a ton of shots. He is shooting 26 percent on 3-pointers ... on almost 8 attempts per game. People were killing Kwan his sophomore year when he jacked up a ton of threes. Hughes is jacking up almost twice as many a game than Kwan did ... and shooting 7 percent lower on those shots.

The more I look at the roster, though, it's a pretty safe bet that there will be room for both. There are three scholarships open for next year. One is going to Isaiah Williams, who is sitting out this year. The second will go to Jayden Sayles. The open scholarship could go to Jackson. After that, I won't speculate on who is going to transfer, but hardly any program in the country goes the offseason without somebody leaving, so I'm guessing a spot will eventually open up for Hughes.

You forgot that we already signed Eric Parrish (6-6,SF) to one of those open scholarships. If Jackson does decide to come to Akron I'm sure KD find a way to make room for him on the team.

I  don't see or hear anything about Frankie Hughes transfering in the media right now. Lets just be happy if we get Jackson.
