MLS Cup 2015

Was this the truck you saw http://m.imgur.com/Xtwy0Cq?If so, Portland Timbers has a guy who cuts a piece of a log off with a chain saw for every goal Portland scores. He then gives that piece to the player who scored the goal after the game. He's kind of their mascot if you will. They hauled the log to Columbus for the game.

#TimberJoey ! And according to PTFC FB, he and the "Victory log" we're on the way to Columbus.

Two of the Columbus players also had big roles against the Zips in the College Cup. Tony Tchani played a big role for Virginia in their 2009 win and Justin Meram I think might have been the player that scored the early goal for Michigan in the 2010 semifinal.

The four Akron players on the Timbers (Nanchoff, Zemanski, Nagbe, one more -- not Porter) posed for a pic next to the plane when they landed in Columbus, I saw tweeted. Fourth might have been the Kiwi coach (remind me his name again).

Pablo Moreira I believe works in the Timbers organization as a coach. I seen the photo too.

Sorry to see the USWNT match was cancelled in Honolulu today. Would have been a fine soccer weekend for you.

This has been a very memorable weekend, with two hard-fought victories by my favorite teams -- and then the hard-to-believe last minute cancellation of the USWNT game two miles from my house. That one is very hard to accept, being the first international football match to be played in the 50th state. The American Outlaws Honolulu just got inaugurated, and this puts a big damper on our and the state's #FootiePride. Hope it's not our last chance, but the state and university have to get their facilities in shape.

It was incredible to be at MLS Cup in Columbus today.

  • @ZIP ... Cameron Knowles is the coach whose name you're trying to remember
  • Tailgated with the Trapps. Got a picture of myself with Wil's Mom & Dad, Andrea, Colin, Jake, and Stella Porter who wandered past the tailgate on their way int to the stadium. (Thanks all!)
  • Was able to get Pablo Maoreira's attention for a moment prior to the start of the game.
  • Sat in a row of Timbers' fans in a sea of Crew fans, and pleasantly surprised to find I was seated next to Darlington Nagbe's sister. Congratulated her at end of game.
  • Got to congratulate Michael Nanchoff at the end of the game.
  • Talked with Eric Stevenson and Saad Abdul-Salaam in the stands at the end of the game.
  • Fun atmosphere...the Timbers Army was outstanding and the Nordecke was good as well.
  • Watched Caleb celebrate with his team and acknowledge the TA, who were chanting "Ca-leb Por-ter" ... like the Rowdies used to do.
  • So happy for Caleb & the Timbers.
  • The Crew did an outstanding job hosting. Glad that they have grass.
  • Talked with Wil for a few minutes after the game.
  • EDIT: Saw Perry Kitchen accept, at the game, the keys to a Lamborghini for his use for 12 month.

Great day to be a Zips fan. So blessed.

Not everyone was satisfied with yesterday's result. Producers of live television broadcasts must remain vigilant. Cute girl in a less than proud moment!

Why/How did Perry Kitchen get a Lamborghini?

I watched the beginning of the game.

As soon as Caleb appeared on the screen for the first time during the pregame, the graphic at the bottom said, "Won National Championship in 2010 at Akron" and the commentator repeated it.

On ESPN on a Sunday afternoon, we couldn't ask for any more of a valuable free plug.

I hope that identity of "Won NCAA Title At Akron" follows him every time he's on TV for the rest of his coaching career.

Unfortunately, I think it became an afterthought when the final whistle blew yesterday. "Won MLS Cup 3 years after taking over Portland Timbers. Also won NCAA Championship at Akron."
