K92
After watching last night's game I realize whyNo one and I mean no one will come to the JAR.
ogzips
I agree this game was terrible, we better play much better if we expect to win 2o + games this year. And we must get JIMOND much more minutes, we need his athleticism and quickness on the floor ! It seems like the only two players that wiil take the ball to the rim is ANTINO and JIMOND. zipfan84
Agree 100% that this team relies too much on the 3 ball. Often it seems like the primary goal as opposed to taking advantage of opportunities in the natural flow of the game. 28 attempts is way too many! (it seemed like more)As a result, I don't see us taking full advantage of our supposed 'athletic' guards. Our guards just worked the perimeter to find an 'open' 3 shooter. It looked like a game of horse out there on offense. When you drive to the basket there are 4 possible (good) outcomes: you make a layup, you get fouled and go to the line, you get fouled and make the layup (3 point play), or lastly you pass out to an open 3 point shooter in rhythm. Of course you could also turn it over. But the risk/reward ratio seems very favorable to me. With the exception of one or 2 drives by Antino near the end of the game, this did not happen. Agree that Jimond needs more playing time. He could be that big, athletic, slashing/driving guard we've needed. With the exceptions of Pat and Big Dog, the team really underachieved last night.I'll take the win but things better improve before league play. The Hip Zip
Coppin State just put on film the best way to beat Akron's defense: mid-range jumpers. Our guards can't adjust when opposing players break through the perimeter or beat them off the dribble, and our bigs are either right under the basket and can'r close, or way out on the perimeter. I do have to give credit to Coppin State, though. They looked much more athletic and quick than I expected.I'll buy into this. I was very surprised to learn that Coppin was # 3 out of 351 NCAA div. one teams in terms of possessions per game. Ironically, they trail Green Bay who sits at #2. We won't see many more, and presumably none, with quicks like those two from here on out. This is the good news because the speedy guards have been wheeling right through us. We have too many guys without the skill or inclination to occasionally put the ball on the floor and drive (McAdams, Kretzer, Kwan, etc...) rather than hoist the three every time. I love the threes when they are dropping, but there needs to be some fear by the other team that if they run at the shooter he will go by them. I'd really like to see Kwan work the post a little more rather than shoot so many threes. We were also pretty awful in transition last night. Sportsjunkie330
Both Kwan and Antino had bad shooting nights and went a collective 4 for 20 and 3 for 10 from the 3 line. When 2 of your starters can't put the ball in the basket the team is going to struggle.Last 4 games shooting:Antino- 11-55Kwan- 10-
phil
I stated last year I thought Kwan could be really good if he would get stronger and develop an inside game. However, that ship has sailed. He is mainly a perimeter player. He had some nice passes last night but he does not have a strong or quick move to the basket. He does have a decent fade away jumper but is not a consistent scorer. Lately, his foul shooting has been bad so it was nice to see he made 2 of 3 from the foul line. Our big guys, Pat and Big Dog took advantage of their height against a smaller team and were double digit scorers. Kwan was 1 of 6. I thought the team player better when Ivey played the forward position late in the second half.
Big E Zip
The entire game I kept commenting on a lack of chemistry. I'm very happy to have Noah back, but it felt like they didn't know how to make him fit in the rotation. As a result it threw off the rest of the rotation. The best chemistry I saw was during the final 5 minutes.
ZachTheZip
The offense is different when Noah is in. It's going to be an adjustment. Better to get it over with sooner and have everything clicking when MAC play starts. Having the adjustment period during the start of conference games would be rough. dirtyolcrowe
Ummmmmmmmmmm....Coppin St out hustled the Zips almost the entire game! They showed up to play. The zips thought they would win by 30. Guess the Green Bay game wasn't a wake up call to them. going to be wishful thinking for a 20 win season. The Hip Zip
Ummmmmmmmmmm.... going to be wishful thinking for a 20 win season. I'll take that action if you wish ? The conference is down, we'll get our 20 and more. Last night was a deviation from the norm. When a perimeter oriented team is not shooting well then they damn well better defend. Against Coppin we did neither and on those nights we are ripe for the picking.
Captain Kangaroo
It was interesting to hear Dambrot discuss his quandary in the post game interview - "Big Dog and Pat could do whatever they wanted inside, offensively. But even our guards couldn't defensively keep up with their guards...so there was no way I could play both our bigs at the same time." He then said "Maybe it was the wrong decision...I don't know" I thought it was kind of insightful.Joe Dunn did a nice job with his post game questions last night.Kwan did a bad job with his layups last night. skip-zip
I'll make this simple:1) Plenty of the longer shots we missed were open shots. 2) Lets just hope that was just one bad game, from that standpoint. 3) I saw a post earlier that said, "If we hit 40% of our 3-pointers, we usually win". Well, just an FYI, but hitting 40% as a team is really, really good. Lets pray that it doesn't take 40% from 3-point range to win the majority of the rest of our games, because that's a pretty high expectation.
Dr Z
I'll make this simple:Nah, "It's gotta be the shoes" Some of the Zips were wearing the new Nike LeBrons last night. You can figure out who by looking at the photos at go zips dot com. zipnetter51
Agree with Capt K- our best lineup played the last 5 minutes. Stan Van Gundy featured a 4-1 offense-A big in the middle who would get single coverage-your 2 best shooters on the wings(Reggie and Jake) and 2 guards who can either penetrate or dish (or both) -probably Noah and Antino, but I wouldn't rule out Ivy or Josh, especially with Noah still limited, and do away with the power forward. I fail to see how Kwan helps much-he won't or can't play inside(not tough enough and doesn't rebound well and on defense he tends to reach and foul. I have watched him for 3 yrs and I just don't see him deserving of major time-I would tell him he must play inside, must defend and MUST rebound and stop trying to play like a guard. If that fails, try Daniel and Aaron, who are much more athletic. If your guards are getting beat on D by quicker guards, insert Ivy,Aaron or Josh. Does anyone know why Pat,who was dominating the game sat on the bench for most of the last 15 minutes?-was he hurt?

Zipsbabie
Every year seems like everyone gets overly excited about a new player last year it was BJ Gladden now it's Ivey. Ok so he's athletic and can jump reminds me a little of Deji except one thing Deji could actually shoot the ball.
phil
Deji was really good his senior year. I don't remember anyone on this board saying very good shooter his frosh and soph. year. Ivy is just beginning. However, this team really needs an athletic kid to attack the hoop and he seems to be the best candidate. Hopefully, he will lay off the 3 ball. We already have too many guys shooting the 3 ball.
ogzips
No I`m not JIMOND, but I`ve seen this guy play and he can shoot. He shoots the 3 ball just as well as anyone on the team! I guess everyone forgot he is not a 100 percent, believe me once he`s healthy the mid American conference better watch out. Remember I said it, for all the people who say he can`t shoot! It seems like people is going off that game against Charleston southern when he had not played or practiced for about 9 days, and shot some air balls. If you really watched the game he kept shooting them. He finally made one as the shot clock ran out, he looked to have gotten his shot back. The finale thing I`m going to say is once he is healthy JUST WATCH!

I've never seen someone be such a sourpuss about everything. Jimond is equivalent to a true freshman, 6 games into his career. He certainly doesn't look like a waste of a schollie. In fact, outside of Antino, he's the only guy on the squad who has demonstrated an ability to get to the hole. Chin up, things really aren't that bad.
