I was only thinking that Suggs might be an upgrade over Morgan, Lawerence, and Jones.  They've all had moments, but were never clear 2s IMHO.  If Suggs is as impressive as he certainly has the potential to be, then why couldn't he become No. 2?  The wrench is Sands.  I completely forgot about him transfering, that IMO, definitely means Suggs will RS.

I think Suggs is going to be a good one but he needs to redshirt, he is 170 lbs, let him dedicate a year to changing his body & then let him loose

All I care about is if he can give us some carries that live up to the lofty virtues that so many people here have bestowed upon him over the last two years, and some of what he showed us in some of the limited carries he had last year.

I'm also a little bit disheartened that some people talk about Manny and Van like they are discarded garbage that should be relegated to the bottom of the heap.  These guys have done some good things for us, have the game experience, and may need to be counted on again for us to win games.

It sure is nice to have depth at a position. It's been a long time. Don't count Van Edwards out of the mix, coach mentioned he played most of last season injured. The ideal situation would be for Warren to be healthy and carry the ball like Biggs did back in 2005. It was no coincidence that we had a great go to back, and won the MAC that year.

When fans talk about you like you are discarded garbage, you need to go out and prove them wrong.

He's looking at you, Akron Beacon Journal. :horse:

For the record:  I never said that Van Edwards or Manny Morgan or DJ Jones are discarded garbage.  In fact, I've always been a Van Edwards and DJ Jones and Manny Morgan fan.  But the fact that there was an effort to bring in not one, but two transfer RBs from P5 programs over the last two years, means that they weren't doing enough in coaches eyes to garner the starting role.  Why would scholarships be spent on a position of strength if you didn't need the upgrade?

Morgan and Edwards, go ahead and prove me wrong.  Please.  It'll make the Zips better for it.

None of them are D1 running backs. Period

All 3 of them are, actually. One of them even a 3 star recruit. I know how much you like stars.

None of them are D1 "talents".

i couldn't care less about stars. I think stars tend to average out, but I care more about who else offers a guy. None of these guys had any other options but Akron.

The read option had it's limited success with Ball because he ripped and tore and slashed his way through the defense. The other backs weren't strong enough to do the same, and our OL could never get a forward push.

Ball got got his yards by his own effort, not the scheme. That said, I'll take yards however I can get them.

Hopefully the OL run blocking makes a dramatic improvement this year. Other than the Ball State game, it was a liability last season.

Won't act like the OL run blocking was great, but the way that play is drew up is horrible. It is way too slow to develop. The RBs after Ball didn't help either as they hesitate rather than hit the hole.

I agree with both of those points, and they are basically the crux of my joke.

No question that Ball is head and shoulders above anybody else the Zips have available at RB,IF HEALTHY! The little we saw of him last season indicated he was too big and too fast for most defenses to handle consistently. Now,Bowden/Milwee have to adjust their play calling to take advantage of that strength on offense. That might be the biggest question given what we have seen from this duo in the past. Its not a sin to be run happy when it works.
