I honestly thought he retired, or got fired. I'm happy the staff has this game on film. Should provide a lot of information to the defense, as App St runs a lot of different personnel packages. They run 20, 12, and 10 personnel on their first three plays. The game will definitely catch the attention of the Zips players. FEAR THE MOUNTAINEERS I saw that too. The problem is that 99% of the country would see that phrase and those colors as a West Virginia slogan. I hope we get a better idea next week with App. State vs. Miami to see just what kind of team we expect in Akron.

LosAngelesZipFan
Going back to earlier in this thread on scheduling... does anyone know why Akron doesn't have a date scheduled with OSU? Was it because iCoach lectured Fickell for running up the score the last game? I get why BG has had several games given the Urban Meyer connection. Anyone have any insight? BTW, someone mentioned when Toledo played OSU in Cleveland a while ago...wasn't that first offered to Akron but we turned it down? I recall that being the case, but would love to know if that's true. I couldn't find any marquis home games scheduled in Akron for the foreseeable future...Iowa State doesn't quite count/cut it in terms of igniting local interest. Personally, I feel it's in Akron's best interest to not try to compete with OSU. Let's keep that pipeline of OSU transfers flowing onto the Zips roster. We've already played them 3 times in the past 12 years. That's fine. 1 hour ago, LosAngelesZipFan said: Was it because iCoach lectured Fickell for running up the score the last game? Who would? We had Cincinnati a few years back, and no one showed up. At InfoCision we've had Syracuse, Pitt, Indiana, Marshall...soon App State & Iowa State...those are great home opponents for UA football. Local interest is directly proportional to winning, not the opponent. That's why Ohio State can play Youngstown State, and sell-out their stadium.

There's Honks all over the state who will go to any game they can get into in Columbus, just to see the team play live. We'll never be in that position unless we are winning on a National level. Local interest is directly proportional to winning AND the opponent we win against. If, by chance, you are expecting any kind of significant change by winning 8 game, when they were primarily against the likes of Ken+, EMU, Miami, Umass, Buffalo, etc., you will be very disappointed. K92
Let's say the pipe dream came true and the Zips hosted OSU, not at Cleveland Browns Stadium, but at the Info. The stadium would be full of Red and Silver and the Buckeye honks would be posting pictures on Facebook saying "EVERY GAME IS A HOME GAME!!" That would do a lot for our program.
kreed5120
Let's look at Akron's OOC schedule. They have 1 cupcake, 2 games vs teams that might be the best team in C-USA and Sun Belt, and 1 game vs a big name P5 school. If Akron basketball scheduled this well, I'd be rejoicing.

I agree - I think it's a great OOC schedule, it would be hard to do a lot better. This is the kind of OOC schedule the Zips should play. Two home games, tow away, one against an opponent you could make a lot of noise by beating but which also gives a chance to bring in additional revenue and one against a team that is in the same situation against us (and I love that we get VMI first) and two good G5 opponents (would also take more lower level P5 like Iowa State as a home and home like we have and I think a 2-1 against a mid-tier P5 like Syracuse is also acceptable). But we didn't. Until last season, the Zips accomplished what? They lost a Pioneer Bowl when I was about 9 years old? That's our football resume. I's a joke compared to App State's. I don't get the SEC network so was trying to follow via ESPN play by play so I might be wrong. A 42 yard Eric is not a gimme and Neyland is a very intimidating venue with the sea of orange. You didn't see his two XP efforts. I have no idea how the first one made it through. If his FG attempt was from 22 yards, he'd still have missed it by a mile. zipsoutsider
Appalachian State shows why little guys still count in college football Quote Tennessee Coach Butch Jones had this to say about the Mountaineers: “They’re a physical, tough football team that’s very active in their defensive front, which causes some issues up front.” 46 minutes ago, Captain Kangaroo said: You didn't see his two XP efforts. LosAngelesZipFan
At this point it will be 10 or more years til we play osu again which I think is too long- I think the opportunity to play them is something that Ohio kids look for. If BG Etc are regularly playing there, I think that hurts us. I also disagree that quality of opponent for home doesn't matter. I think we would go 12-0 against Gardner webs and vmi and still draw less than Canton McKinley. For the cle-akr market, at this point, the only way to draw large 20-30k+ crowds is winning and meaningful opponents. I think our basketball amply shows that winning alone won't do it (though it is clearly necessary as well). i asked the question in the context of appy getting Miami and the name opponents that Toledo has managed to get at home (which includes Boise st, Syracuse, Miami, Byu, Kentucky Etc etc). Winning is a prerequisite, but I don't think we are filling info if it's just against Mac level opponents Edited September 3, 2016 by LosAngelesZipFan
