MDZip Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 Akron (13-3, 3-0 MAC) at Miami (8-8, 1-2 MAC). 3:30 EST Millett Hall Miami. The Zips are the second highest rated MAC team at 91 (behind Ohio at 89) in Kenpom.com and the Redhawks the lowest (by a wide margin 50 spots lower than BGSU as the next lowest) at 282, so the Zips should be able to handle this one but strange things have happened at Millett recently. Maybe the MAC is a little better this year but the Zips should win this to go 4-0 heading into the Ohio showdown. Incidentally the Youngstown (8-9, #284) loss is looking even worse now but the Marshall (11-6, #97 and leading Conference USA) win is looking even better. I always thought the Dr. Z Three for Thursday football quizzes were fun so maybe we should start them for basketball. 1 Quote

ace Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 Seen Miami play quite a few times in person this year...Zips should have no trouble but as we know, weird things often happen when they go to Oxford. Freshman PG Michael Weathers for the RedHawks is the real deal, can consistently beat his man and get to the rim, which could pose problems for Akron guards. If the Zips key on him he can be prone to turnovers. Supporting cast is nothing at all to write home about. Michael's twin brother Marcus is a pretty good player but a bit undersized. C Logan McLane will be Big Dog's counterpart. He'll have no chance stopping Big Dog one on one so I'd expect the usual double teams. If the Zips can hit shots I personally don't see any way they lose, Miami is just not good. Then again, anything can happen in road conference games so shouldn't take anything for granted. 1 Quote

There is a full moon this week, so if we can avoid a meltdown coupled with poor officiating then i think we will be ok. Quote
