Blue & Gold Posted January 24, 2017 Report Posted January 24, 2017 Okay, yeah, the title's kinda cheesy, but this is a really good pregame article from GT GT discusses the UA-WMU rivalry, the youth of the Bronco's roster, the buzz beginning to be heard in the community concerning the winning streak (wish we didn't have to have the pressure of never losing to create interest), and the Zips' free-throw abomination -vs- EMU. Great article! Quote
Blue & Gold Posted January 24, 2017 Author Report Posted January 24, 2017 Man, it's too early in the morning. I just started a new thread for this but actually just wanted to place it in the WMU thread. Would a mod like to merge this? Quote
LZIp Posted January 24, 2017 Report Posted January 24, 2017 Why did he have to emphasize "right now"? Does he see the MAC favorite Zips choking and not winning their division? BTW regarding buzz, I walk by the ESPN studio in Cleveland every morning and this morning something new caught my eye. A Zips basketball poster hung up. 1 Quote

A Zips basketball poster hung up. Now if they would actually quit talking about the Browns for 30 seconds to field a call about the Zips, that would be great. I personally like listening to the Bull and Fox on 92.3 the fan on my commute home from work. I remember last year the night before the start on MAC tournament quarterfinals Adam "the Bull" asked Dustin Fox (a guy who does MAC announcing on the side and self proclaimed MAC fan) who he had winning the tournament. Dustin Fox kind of shrugged the question off like it's a waste of their time talking about it. He did eventually say "Akron, because they were suppose to be pretty good." From there they moved onto talking about the Cavs or Browns. Edited January 24, 2017 by kreed5120 Quote

Really do not listen to much Cle sports talk radio, but when something big is happening I do enjoy listening to Bull and Fox the most (even though that isn't saying a ton). Fox gets some points from me because he is a MAC fan and pretty knowledgeable of the conference, in football at least. Quote

That's been the overwhelmingly prevalent attitude with the Cleveland media for at least 30 years now (as long as I've been following the Zips & have thus been miffed by their out right refusal to cover Akron). kreed5120 Posted January 24, 2017 Report Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) Yeah, in general I feel a lot of it stems that outside of March Madness, college basketball just isn't that big of a thing in NEO. Even the people that claim to be OSU fans probably couldn't tell you their record and name their starting 5. You'd still like to see media outlets that are viewed/listened by 10s of thousands of people per day talk positively about something their city is hosting. Not that it would convince people with no interest to go, but it might get people who were on the fence or are just basketball fans in general to fill it is worthwhile to go downtown and see. Mon morning, Johnson spent time after practice doing the same Quote

LZIp Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Did not want to start a new thread, but it seems were aren't the only ones who get crappy media coverage. Northwestern is 17-4 and currently 3rd in B1G standings. 1 Quote
