He went to the Sweet Sixteen and won 3 tournament games at OU. He won 1 less MAC tournament in 4 years than KD did in 13. The only thing I don't like about it is that we will go through the Groce leaving rumors pretty much every offseason if he's successful. Such is mid major life

Good problem to have.

Never cared much for Groce's demeanor on the court. You can tell he comes from the Thad Matta coaching tree, as his face gets just as red as Thad's.

Exactly this. 100%.

I think there's a fine line between fiery and belligerent and in my eyes Groce used to be on the wrong side of that line more often than not.

Debating if Groce is a good coach is a legitimate discussion.

Debating if the regular season or NCAA tournament is more important is not a legitimate discussion.

NCAA Tournament wins>

When you have a coach like Dambrot for as long as we did, it's hard to get that regular season matters mentality out of the way.

As long as he isn't getting excessive Ts I don't really care. I'll be busy watching the players. Take a gander at OU's board to see their thoughts. They kinda really hate this, so it's as if they liked the guy.

To add to my earlier post as I sit here bored at work, pondering a John Groce-led Zips program, Groce is part of the reason I came to dislike OU so much.

With that being said...

With a trip to the Sweet Sixteen, I'd consider going out and getting a beet-red John Groce tattoo. The fact that Caris LaVert had committed to OU (de-committed when Groce left, correct?) speaks volumes. Then again, Dambrot had a commitment from Dylan Ennis.

I don't know. I'm torn.

I never said him having a poor demeanor made him less of a coach. I guess what I'm saying is all things considered I'm less excited about it than I should be based on my recollection of he used to behave.

That said, if he's as great of a recruiter as everyone says he is, then I'm interested to see how this turns out.

I think myself and lilroodude have the same outlook on him, essentially.

Groce's demeanor reminds me too much of Hipsher. You're coaching a group of guys playing a GAME Groce - it's NOT Life or Death! Give that vein that's popping out on the side of your head a break! No thanks. Next ...

LeVert didn't just commit, he had signed his LOI.  Ohio released him from it when Groce left for Illinois.  He also had Evan Bradds (2 time OVC POY at Belmont) committed for the following year.  Groce recruited very well at this level.

Impressive. Apparently, he also recruited well at Illinois. There were people clamoring for the University not to fire him out of fear of losing their recruits.

Like I said, I'm torn. I don't like his coaching style, but I'd also take a Sweet Sixteen run, or even Elite 8 just to tick off the OU fans even more.

Yeah, God forbid we want a coach capable of putting together a good conference record.

There have been very little of those comments and much more of people not wanting him because of his demeanor/coaching look/taking things too seriously (whatever that is supposed to mean). I guess you all don't like NCAA wins though.
