I don't think that's the case. We were coming off a 5-7 season when the seniors on this team were being recruited. The same record we'll most likely finish with this season. Fleck turned a 1-11 WMU into a 13-1 team in a span of 3 seasons. It doesn't take 10 years to build a program. People on this board will still be using RI as an excuse 5 years from now.

I'm not defending Bowden an co here for this season, as I have become extremely disgruntled, however I do think some objectivity is needed. Equating Fleck and Bowden is a ludicrous comparison. The team Fleck inherited was considerably different from the team Bowden inherited. PJ Fleck inherited a team that had only 1 coach change in 7 years, and one year removed from a bowl game/winning season. Bowden Inherited a team that had 3 coaching changes in 9 years, and was 7 years removed from a bowl-game/winning season. To equate the situations that Bowden and fleck had is laughable. With that being said, yes I agree the Zips should be, in 2018, beyond the utter-meltdown after suffering a couple of injuries stage. The Zips should also be beyond a sputtering offense. But it's time to stop equating Fleck and Bowden's situation. A more apt comparison would be Bowden to the situations at Eastern Michigan and Miami of Ohio. Both situations are extremely similar to the situation the Zips were in.

I used Fleck as a point to illustrate that if you actually have a coach that can recruit and develop players, you can turn a bad team to a great team really quick. I'm not holding it against Bowden that he hasn't had a 13-1 season at Akron. What I'm holding against him is we're in year 7 and we're pretty much at the same exact place that we were at in year 2 of his tenure. He made a giant leap in growing the program at the start, but it has been stagnant ever since.

I don't want a coach who continually points out, "Behold! All the teams are virtually the same!" I want a coach who says, "This is a below average conference from top to bottom and we're going to make each and every conference member our bitch." Again, I'm getting on Bowden when my real beef is with Milwee. Our D's been pretty stout for 6 years now. Our O? Not so much. It's beyond time for a change.
