Game 21- Buffalo

The Zips head off to southern Ontario Tuesday to face the bovine.  In this odd Covid driven year, the Zips were to open the MAC season with the bovine yet are now not playing them until the second half of the season.  The game is yet another 2:00 tipoff.  So far, no telecast is listed on either site and the game is not listed in the ESPN+ schedule for Tuesday.  This is really pi$$ing me off.

Buffalo is 11-7/9-5 heading into the Hocking Valley today.  6'5" junior forward Jeenathan Williams leads them at 17.9 ppg while adding in 7.4 rpg.  SVSM grad Jayvon Graves is the team's second leading scorer at 14.7 ppg.  6'7" junior junior center Josh Mballa leads the league in rebounding at 10.1 rpg while scoring 14.6 ppg.  Mballa and Williams give them 2 of the MAC's top 7 rebounders.

Hopefully, the Zips will be able to recover from their recent slump.   Here's hoping Mr. Pinky loses the Zips voodoo doll he found during the halftime of the Zips/PCCC game and the Zips can get back on track.  They'd better plan the hit the boards in this one.

Last year, they were 16-4 20 games in.  This year, they are 14-6 with fewer OOC dogs.  Maybe it's not as bad as we fear?

As always it comes down to the tournament and whatever comes with that.  Our "special" team may not have won their 3rd game against Ohio in the quarterfinals last year.   Taking out the bottom 4 makes it a true dogfight in Cleveland.    These losses shake the nerves but can anyone predict what will happen in Q-Final match ups between:

Toledo/Ball State

Buffalo/Miami

Akron/Bowling Green

Ohio/Kent State

But realistically, looking at the scores today, over the past week, and who has the schedule that will build confidence going into Cleveland, the #1 and #2 seeds will be Buffalo and Toledo.  The Zips with their 5'8" point guard and "the rest" just don't have a chance to even make it to the finals.

I have a bad feeling we're heading into an ass-whooping today. However, it's 2021 and crazier things have happened.

They aren't that good from the outside but they are big inside and will crush on the boards and likely get multiple 3 attempts per possession.  I think Kent held them off because of Pippen/

I have the same feeling.  However, there is hope.  In the 2016-2017 season I felt the same way because the Zips had lost 2 in a row and we never win at Buffalo.  We won the game 89-83.  That is why we play the games.  Go Zips.

Reece and Freeman have to stay out of foul trouble or they'll get killed on the boards.  Also, guys like Dailey, Wynn, Dawson and Tribble need to crash to help out.

Buffalo is a on a 3 game win streak where they've won by an average of over 20+.  Not feeling good about this one.

Bulls by 18-23.

Strangely enough I almost stopped watched the CAVs during their 10 game losing streak because they were not just losing but looking bad.  I feel the same way about the Zips now even though the Zips are only on a 2 game losing streak (it feels like 10).  Now the CAVs are on a 4 game win streak which has all happened during the Zips losing streak.  If you are a superstitious sort last night's CAVs win means the Zips will lose today.  Although I don't consider myself superstitious, I do think the Bulls will win 85-65.
