Game 7 - Providence Friars vs. #3 Akron Zips, Big East Debut

Recommended Posts

The 2-3 Providence Friars travel to Akron Friday Night. The Friars have scored 8 goals in their past 4 matches, 3 of which have come by way of #9 forward Brendan McSorley.

Zips will look to make some noise in their first game in the Big East. Fans will also be encouraged to make some noise because Thundersticks will be distributed to the first 1,000 fans through the gates.

Hoping to stay undefeated and pick up our first ever Big East Conference W!

Will not be there unfortunately. Will be stat watching on the socials. Hope we get the big first Big East win. What was our last non MAC conference win in any sport?

Sorry you can't be there. (I know that feeling for the next game. Ugh)

I can't answer "in any sport",  but looking at the Zips Men's Soccer Media Guide, it looks like the last non-MAC conference win for Zips Men's Soccer was 10/27/1991 4-1 win at Western Illinois in the Mid-Continent Conference under Coach Steve Parker.

The last home Zips MSOC match I missed was in 2006.

That streak will be broken tonight, sadly so.

This FloFC had better be excellent considering it costs $30/month.

Let's see if the Friars dare to high press us.

I suspect they will not.

If your question was the last conference win in another conference other than the MAC in any sport, the answer is November 12, 2022.  On that date Akron defeated  Memphis 4,697 points to 4,674 points in rifle, in the Great America Rifle Conference.

This was a wild and woolly affair!  Whew!

Welcome to the Big East, Zips!

Where even the average teams can whip your ass.

Zips barely deserved to split the points, but something must be said for hanging tough and fighting back.

From my vantage in my home office (basement), both PK awards were bogus.  No?

Our defense was awful in the first half.

This is starting to look like a trend, a bad one.

We must become more disciplined in the back.

We will take the point.

Onward and upward!

Bring back Overtime!

My opinion ... I would agree if the NCAA ever implements the Fall/Spring Soccer season where teams aren't playing such a compressed schedule.
