MAC Bowls

First off, OU vs Sunbelt member Georgia Southern. 

 

I don't think winning or losing is critical in bowl season, but this should be a fun game. An annual regular season Sun Belt vs MAC would be a great event.

Early 2nd quarter, Ohio up 10-0.

Midway through the 3rd, OU up 27-7.

About half way through the 4th quarter, OU up 34-21.  Georgia southern with the ball around the 50.

I believe I read on X that this is OU’s 5th straight bowl win & 2nd consecutive 10-win season.

They are a strong program. One guy goes down another steps up. Weak programs like Akron collapse under adversity.

Not to take anything away from Ohio, but GA Southern would have found it difficult to beat any team with their 5 turnover performance today.

GSU was 'only' a 6-win team this year. I tuned into the OU audio briefly and their announcers were whining about the shoddy bowl matchup selection.

OU also had their top 2 QBs unavailable, I believe top 2 RBs and one of their top 2 WRs, and Keye Thompson while Ga Southern had everyone. Good win for them IMO. Navarro basically had zero stats this year before today's game, same as their RB.

Black uniforms were once creative. Now they are a symbol of a lack of creativity. Everyone does it regardless of whether or not it's their school's colors. It's stupid at this point.

Almost all of them were caused by an aggressive and relentless defense. OU beat them up and down the field.

Early take away from yesterday. The quality of players in the MAC match up with other G5 conferences. If the MAC had adult leadership, they could eliminate the appearance of sucking.  

 

Fans get into stupid arguments about what "the worst" conference is. Nobody really knows because there isn't a meaningful way of measuring it other than insignificant exhibitions like bowl games. The MAC is a quality conference. Akron needs to become a quality team in a quality conference.

GA Southern’s biggest issue all year has been turnovers. 5 is certainly on the high end. I thought Ohio was assisted more by GA Southern’s mistakes as opposed to what they actually caused. The QB alone had 16 interceptions going into the game. Gifting the ball to defenses is nothing new to him. Seemed to me Ohio should have won by more considering the turnovers. In any case, they have more depth on the OL and DL than most MAC programs. Their freshmen also stepped up.
