MDZip
You know as much as last year was disappointing, it's pretty amazing that the Zips have only lost one conference game in the almost two years they have been in the conference and that team is coming in on Wednesday (or two losses if you count last year's conference tournament).

That is not going to happen...as the Zips will win tonight against Marquette. Akron has 18 points after playing only 6 games. A win tonight at Marquette would give Akron 21 points and would give them the top seed in the conference tournament. in the 4 pm conference game, Creighton currently leads Butler 3-1 ...19 minutes left in the game A win would push Creighton to 10 points with a 3-3-1 record Creighton plays at Marquette next Saturday A Creighton win today and next week...would probably bump them up to a 6 seed in the conference tourney
TennZip
Seton Hall defeated Xavier 1-0 Xavier would need a miracle to get into the tourney current standings Akron 21 2. Georgetown 16 3T. Providence 14 3T. St. Johns 14 5. UConn 11 6T. Creighton 10 6T. Seton Hall 10 8th. Marquette 8 current also rans DePaul and Xavier have 5 points...... Butler at 3 and Villanova at 1...have been eliminated all 6 games next saturday start at 2 eastern Georgetown at st. Johns Xavier at Providence Villanova at Seton Hall DePaul at Butler Creighton at Marquette Akron at UConn if Creighton and Marquette, Marquette would finish as the 8 seed and play at Akron on November 9 I would expect Seton Hall to beat Villanova If Marquette were to beat Creighton next Saturday (and Seton Hall wins or ties), Creighton would drop to 8 seed and come to Akron on the 9th I will let someone smarter than me.....figure out what happens if Marquette, DePaul and Xavier tie for 8th with 8 points I hope that Georgetown wins or ties next Saturday....I would like them to be the 2 or 3 seed and be on the opposite side of the draw from the zips
MDZip
So I did a little analysis on who the Zips opponent will be in the first round of the tournament. The Big East uses points and then the best result against common opponents starting with the highest seed. The current standings: 1. Akron 21 points (clinched top seed) 2. Georgetown 16 points 3. Providence 14 points (by virtue of beating UConn and tied St John's) 4. St John's 14 pts (tied UConn) 5. UConn 11 points 6. Creighton 10 points (tied Providence) 7. Seton Hall 10 points (lost to Providence) 8. Marquette 8 points Outside looking in Xavier, DePaul 5 points Eliminated: Butler 3 points, Villanova 1 point. So not trying to figure out all of the permutations of all the seeds, but trying to figure out who the 8 seed will be. It cannot be any of 2-4, they have too many points. It cannot be UConn because if Marquette wins, that would knock Creighton (whom they play) below UConn in the standings. If Marquette ties Creighton they are the 8 seed. If Marquette beats Creighton and Seton Hall wins or ties, Creighton is the 8 seed. If Marquette beats Creighton and Seton Hall loses, Seton Hall is the 8 seed because they lost to Providence while Creighton tied them. If DePaul wins (they have Butler) and Marquette and Xavier lose, DePaul gets the 8 seed because their best result is a win over Creighton. If Xavier beats Providence and Marquette loses, Xavier is the 8 seed, no matter what DePaul does (Xavier will have the best result amongst the highest seeded team). So there are still five teams possible for the eight seed, so now you know your rooting interest. Personally, I'm rooting for DePaul, Creighton and Providence. ☺️ Edited October 28 by MDZip 2
MDZip
We also got pretty lucky. The Zips have shut out every opponent in the Big East except the two that are guaranteed not to make the tournament. Dodged two bullets there. 🤣

MDZip
Don't like that Georgetown dropped to number four. Partly because I think they're the second best team in the conference, but even more so the semifinals will be held about 40 minutes from their campus.

If OT were implemented for the regular season, I think we would have a few more W's on our resume.

I respectfully disagree. The extra minutes are a lot of wear and tear on our players in a compressed season. We'd likely see more injuries.
