UAZipster0305
It's exciting to be playing IU away this Sunday. Their schedule and results are impressive. Had they not lost early in the Big Ten Tournament, it seems likely they could be top four seed. https://iuhoosiers.com/sports/mens-soccer/schedule Also, our history against IU is abysmal. I'd love to claw another back in the win column. Kudos to their program for having such comprehensive series history available though. https://iuhoosiers.com/sports/msoc/opponent-history/akron/
Zip_ME87
Thanks for the history. Notable is that Caleb Porter never lost only once to his Alma Mater. [CP never lost to IU with Jared Embick on his staff.] EDIT - CORRECTION, my brain was off by a year when I posted my original, now edited, statement above. As I recall, 2006 was CP's 1st year as Zips Head Coach. Zips lost to IU that year, but never thereafter during CP's tenure. Still a great accomplishment once he started making his mark on Zips Men's Soccer. (sorry for my original misstatement above.) Zip_ME87
Following the 1-0 Zips win v IU on 9/7/2012, back in the lobby of the Zips hotel, after I congratulated him and team, Caleb Porter smiled and told me that there was nothing better than beating your friends. 😃

The story of this match is what Indiana can do, if anything, to slow down NCAA Division I top scorer Emil Jaaskelainen. And even then, the Zips have several more attacking talents like Malik Henry, Dyson Clapier, and Victor Gaumlin, who can wreak havoc. But Indiana is on a nine-year streak of making it past the second round, suggesting Todd Yeagley and his staff will have the answers.

By virtue of being seeded, IU is already in the second round, so they are free to lose to us on Sunday without threatening their streak. Next contest is mid day Sunday. Zips must be far more clinical in their finishing if we hope to best Hoosiers in Bloomington. We either make history or we fall. TennZip
nice article from student newspaper at IU as I mentioned earlier, Akron and IU both started the seasons very slowly...... but both have come on like gang busters during the IU streak when they went 8-0-1, IU scored 32 goals (more than 3.5 per game) https://www.idsnews.com/article/2024/11/indiana-soccer-ncaa-tournament-akron-iu-bloomington-hoosiers

Let'sGoZips94
1pm Zips soccer straight into 3pm Zips basketball. No Browns to disappoint as they already won the Snow Globe game on Thursday. Could be a great way to end a beautiful week! Go Zips! Beat IU!
AkronAlumnus
Big moment for Akron Soccer this afternoon. Hopefully they can rise to the occasion on IU's pitch in beautiful Bloomington.
MDZip
Hopefully, the Indiana community will be too upset at their football loss to pay much attention to this one. Indiana has a stronger history,a winning record against the Zips, the Zips have never won in Bloomington and none of that matters today. Reslife4Life
I can’t believe we have never won at IU. How many others teams can say that against Akron It doesn’t matter tho cause that ends today!
Let'sGoZips94
Akron dominating possession so far. Starting to get some opportunities, too. Side note: apparently you can have noisemakers if it's your official pep band. The NCAA is dumb.

Let'sGoZips94
Mitch with a terrific read and punch out on a set piece. IU player taking the free kick played a great ball towards the far post that would've found an IU player who got loose.
Let'sGoZips94
Possession is swinging towards IU. Yellow Card on Akron (not sure who - announcers kind of sucks). Edit: YC on Clapier. Second or third time he has kicked the ball with gusto after the whistle has blown. Ref warned him after the first.
