Why? They're not taking spots from anyone, and if they're eventually deemed ineligible, I'm sure Akron will be prepared. Having a veteran leader like Evan around our young guys is a nice bonus, too.

What do you mean they’re not taking spots from anyone? Is there some grandfather rule that allows them to not count against the limit?

Not like we can add more people to the roster in mid-October. The semester is already halfway over. We're kind of committed to the players we already have.

Agreed with that (though I wonder if there is flexibility for next semester). Just didn’t know if there is some special rule I’m not aware of. If not, I’d say they are taking someone else’s spot, it’s just too late to do anything about it unless there’s an Enrique Freeman on campus.

Friendly reminder that you can exchange tickets for games you can't attend for additional tickets to games that you can. Just email tickets@uakron.edu and they can exchange them for you. I just had my requests processed today.

It's interesting that the Zips are getting respect in the MAC, but we are slated to play projected mid-level SunBelt competition. We'll see who is correct.

To be fair, when the pairings were made, I don't believe the Zips had Mahaffey or Oriol on the roster.

Just watched the media day interview, a few notes (paraphrasing what was said):

- Fingers crossed Evan is eligible, said he has been practicing with the team but hasn't played in either scrimmage

- Said they played really well in one scrimmage, not so well in another

- Likes the flexibility the roster provides...can play big, can play small, can play fast, can slow it down...loves the depth they have.

- Thinks their x-factor will be defense and rebounding...loves their toughness

- Tahj said he will be a two-way player and an extension of Coach Ford on the floor

- Tahj has two sons, 5 and 4 years old. Coach Ford said he sets a great example as a father

I have a hard time believing having sons that old is even possible.

He said they were born right before his freshman year of college.
