Stadium Cams Are Live!!!!!

Drove down Exchange on my way home from work today and noticed that the rear of the scoreboard is complete, just like the UA stadium site showed it to look like. It's made of the same stretched canvas look...I'm not a big fan, it seems as though it will wear out very quickly. Perhaps this is another preparation for future upgrade down the road, maybe that exterior video screen that was previously discussed?

I still think it will be fine for television, but it hardly brings anything exciting to the table. I won't complain, assuming they saved money to put into other aspects of the stadium.
AgreedI'm okay with the fact they spread them out. But, I would have perfered the original drawing look.

FawcettStadium-2.jpgstadium1.jpgHow do our lights look any different? The lights behind the stands are the originals. The lights in the corners were added by the NFL for TV games.
I've seen the poles in person at Fawcett Stadium and I'm no fan of the look. The Info more likely will have more then enough lighting for TV. But, the five tower look in the drawings is far superior IMO to the three cheap looking poles they're putting up.IMO, its like putting a Ford Pinto symbol on Lexus. :(

I'm not going to worry to much about the lights or back of the the scoreboard or any other little details that probably could have been done a little better. The place looks awesome! Bring on Sep. 12th!
I'm not worried about the either.I'm just disappointed they made those changes. They (AD) said they were under budget due to the poor economy and many of the construction draws were coming in under budget. Why cut back on the lighting and a possible video board facing Exchange? If, you budgeted 61 mil and you're under budget. Why add the ribbon scoreboard and then cut back on the lights?Don't get me wrong. Overall I'm in love with the Info. I'm just disappointed is some of the changes they've made.

Sorry, but I think those light posts cheapen the entire thing. Everything else is beautiful then they do that. Why not do what the original rendering showed? :wall:
Yeah, too bad about the tacky light poles...especially since they are doing a nice job integrating the dorms and the stadium. The lights stick out like sore thumbs. But if that's the only blemish on the project, who's to complain I guess?

   Funny part is, you won't even be able to tell once the dorms are completed wrapping around Spicer to Exchange. Do we really think they'd build light standards that wouldn't be powerful enough for television? You guys think they just want to cart in mobile lights for old times like ESPN at the Rubber Bowl?

I walked by the stadium today and the lights look pretty cool. The center pole is right up behind the grandstand. I do like the original drawing, but these must be better for television. And again, they look pretty good. The canvas on the back of the scoreboard is another story. It's not even stretched smoothly. However, the graphic is nice and I'm going to assume that they plan on changing out the picture on the back of the scoreboard on a fairly regular basis, which, again, will be pretty cool.

They may look better in person and I'll take your word for it. Is the third pole up? I saw the crane in cam one working a good part of the day. But, we can't see the poles on the cam if it's similar spot to the first pole. As I said. I love the Info. I just a bit disappointed in the light pole selection for the eastside stands and this canvas backside to the scoreboard.I understand the Info Sign where the speakers are. But, a canvas backside. :(

I know, I'm with you. I'd like to hear a statement from UA athletics as to why they veered from the origianal design. I'm just guessing that these lights are better for television. Anyway, I had to leave before they got the 3rd pole up, but it's what they were working on, and I'd bet it's up now.

There will be no problem with lighting at Summa Field. They have 2 settings. The first is for overcast days and the second for night games. The candle power of the lights exceeds what is requested by networks. As far as 3 or 5 light stanchions is concerned, does it really matter? as long as the lights are not in front of the stands and can provide enough candle power, than I really don't have any concerns. Actually after watching games at the RB for 50 years, I'm not going to know what to do without a stanchion getting in my way. LOL

Agree'd, much ado about nothing. I'll never forget when they first painted the center poles at the RB green, as if that would somehow make them invisible! :P

I've never seen such concern over grass and lighting. I've witnessed strong concern over lighting grass...but that was in K.e.n.t.kentblowz_8.jpg

I think you are right ZW.It might even be more than that. We have a beautiful stadium, with lights that won't even be noticeable during the day. And at night because of the dark blue paint you won't even see the poles. The experience will be vastly superior going to the Rubber Bowl in every way but people have to find the negative in everything.

I have noticed the 'grassy knoll' and 'light poll' threads and wondered to myself if they come off with a lack of gratitude for the changes or lack of perspective for where we were not to long ago, but I really don't think anyone intended to come across that way.I'm sure everyone, right down the line, will come forward and tell you how we don't take all this for granted. You just gotta remember that it's a slow period in the summer and people chatter harmlessly.

At least we ar not the buckeyes! They have to truck in lights and the losses that come with them. Night games at the info will be great as will the day games.

I agree with Zen. The artists renderings are what everyone was expecting, especially out of towner's, and any deviation from what they expected is disappointing. It's a beautiful stadium. It wasn't hard to improve compared to the Rubber Bowl, but I'll miss it. Some might have been fearful having lived through the JAR promise and eventual reality. I was at first.

AgreedI've said it several times and I'll say it again. I love the Info and just about anything was going to major improvement over the Rubber Bowl. I don't feel any of us are being negative. We're just disappointed they decided to make changes that were different from the original drawings. I expected some changes as that is usually the case. But, IMO the lighting changes is the most disappointing. That doesn't mean I and anyone else here is being negative about the overall project. I love the overall project and I'm still just excited now as when they turned the Cams on last year. But, we're just expressing disappointment over something we saw in the drawings we liked. That they decided to change. That's not negative IMO. It called being disappointed.

Well, since someone has already done the work for them, maybe our athletics department could just edit that down and run some television commercials? Tragically, that video that was just "thrown together on iMovies" is far superior to anything I've seen come out of our athletics dept.
