Akron@Syracuse in 2009?

My understanding was this game in 2009 was scheduled for Sept 5, 2009. Minnesota just announced they are coming to Syracuse to play us on the same date. Have you guys heard of a different date for 2009?Hoping to see some Zip fans in Syracuse this fall.

cuse,indiana and bcs teams will never come to the bowl.akron admin blew it on the schedules this year by playing away games with the promise of a trip to the new stadium.will get kentucky to come here because it's opening of the new stadium.i do think it's unfair to jd and his staff to to pimp the schedule this year.these return games will never happen and jd will pay the price this year.it's sad that we have to open a new stadium just to get six games every year.the ad dept has always done a terrible job in scheduling,and next year is no exception.

Hi TexanMark,I was just over on our team's official website (GoZips.com) and they have no information at all (at least that I found.) They used to have a "Future Schedules" page but I couldn't find it anywhere. We're scheduled to play you guys in 'Cuse this year on September 6th and I'm really hoping you guys make a return trip to our new stadium in '09! I'd love to play the Orange anyway, but especially in our inaugural year at the stadium!Go Orange! Go Zips!

Thanks to adding Temple, MAC football schedules are a train wreck. I heard that K.e.n.t. at one point had committed to 15 games in 2008. The Zips had committed to 13, and had to drop Kentucky.In Akron you never know who's going to be on your schedule until about March of the respective season.

CK or others-- anyone have any perspective on RACER's view that we won't be able to schedule BCS schools with any regularity at home after the new stadium opens? Seems like we should be able to get this happen assuming the stadium delivers greater attendance for a few seasons (and hopefully a concurrent increase in wins which will lead long term increase in attendance/support).Can't had Minnesota at home 2 seasons ago. Toledo has had Penn State, 'cuse, Pitt, Kansas at home. Miami has Northwestern, Colorado, Col State, Boise State at home.

there is really not much point in entertaining the opinions of someone who doesn't even know who the opponent is scheduled to open the new stadium.

Unless someone were really really really lazy, I'd expect to have at least one "marquee" home opponent every season at the new stadium. We can afford it.

i guess i was wrong.i thought akron was supposed to play kentucky this year,and kentucky was supposed to open at the new stadium.i know akron is not playing kentucky this year.why not try to get a bcs team to come here to open the stadium.indiana already owes us a return game which could be played later.i think the admin lost any leverage to get another bcs team to the new stadium.we may get some lower bcs teams but we will have to give them a 2-1 most likely.

For what is worth,My son, who works as an SID at a D2 in Arkansas & would like to work for the U of A was talking to an SID from a D2 school here in Ohio and that individual told my son in no uncertain terms not to apply or accept a postion with U of A because the Athletic Adminstration is totally screwed up.My question is this: If this university's athletic administration is so screwed up, why is it I just spent over $1000 on season tikcets for fb for the next 2 years? Who is screwd up?

Oh, haha. Sorry 'bout that. I must've misread your post. I think the point of having indiana (formerly kentucky) come in to infocision was to have a big name team that was beatable for the opener. There's no need to worry about putting butts in the seats, at least for the first season. What you want is quality competition that is BEATABLE. The bottom line is, during that first season there are gonna be a lot of potential bandwagon fans in the seats, you want to show that group a good product. While it doesn't need to be a good product NECESSARILY, it DOES need to be a victory if at all possible. People like winners. Racer, your idea is a good one too, but hopefully in the coming years at ICS we will be successful enough to use that leverage of the new stadium to bring teams. However, during the first season, WINNING is the most important thing in order to bring people back.

Indiana is a Big 10 team that played in a bowl game in 2007. They're the biggest "name" team to come to Akron since Virgina Tech in 1995. Anyone complaining about that game needs to redirect their angst. On a scale of 1-10 on the "complainability index," it rates a 1.5.

Cincinnati was a gift from Mike Thomas. Indiana was also a game from the previous administration, and at the time the contract was signed the new stadium was not a slam-dunk. Wasn't the Indiana game date originally a Rubber Bowl one?By no means am I a Big 10 shill, but getting a Big 10 team to come to your stadium, when you have no ties to that school (Miami, for example, got many of it's marquee games from Hoeppner, Walker and others) is pretty damn good.

Personally, I think I'd rather see regular games with Big East opponents as opposed to the Big 10. I'm probably in the minority on that one, but I think it'd be easier to develop a few healthy rivalries w/ Big East schools as opposed to Big 10 schools. Cinci, L-ville, Pitt, 'Cuse, W.Va. Those all sound great to me!

rowdy you make some good points.i guess you are right in the fact indi is a winnable game.you are probably right in scheduling them to open espcially if akron wins.kentucky was great last year so i imagine we don't want to play them yet.i do feel sorry for jd becasue the 2008 schedule this is it totally unfair to him.i am not trying to change the topic but it leads to next season.it would be a shame if this team goes 4-8 and jd will be gone.i am not a big fan of jd but the schedule is not very easy.jd may not see the new stadium if the team has a another 4-8year.i do think most zips fans feel the same way in that the record this year should not be the only factor if jd stays around.at trhe same time can we have a coach with three losing seasons leading into the new stadium?

from what i've heard akron didn't make the decision to drop kentucky. chryst did. both kentucky and wisconsin were ok with akron backing out but cryst made the choice for them with conference scheduling. chryst is an idiot and akron needs to get out of the mac asap. i agree that the big east would make a lot of sense for scheduling unless it's a school like iu.
