Blue & Gold
What on earth?! Here's the ABJ's breaking news report on the subject. Note the Gawd-awful headline: UA Basketball Player Fires On Police. Good grief. http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/19059389.html
Valpo Zip
I think that one of the best things associated with the bball team over the last few years is their reputation of high character and family environment. Brooks doesn't appear to fit with the group. Knowing KD's zero tolerance attitude to BS, i say this kid must go. He may want to try out for Can't state. ZipAlumn
This just sucks. I am so disappointed. He couldn't even outrun the cops, what does that say about team speed, let alone team character.

Your post is uncalled for. I know several police officers on the APD and the thought that someone was firing at them with deadly force, and assumed intent to kill, sends shivers up my spine. The fact that the suspect was an Akron athlete deeply saddens me. I'm a former letterman and the allegation that any Akron athlete would do this is horrible news. There is no need to make light of it with a comment about team speed. This just isn't funny on any level!

I know for a fact if this had been a K-E-N-T athlete, this board would be abuzz with jokes. When it's one of ours, we criticize comedy. MDZip
And it made the top "headline" section on ESPN's men's basketball. For a guy that never even played one minute for us. Great.

I gues the wives and kids of the cops who had to dodge his bullets are finding it hysterical. Just because the classless folks on the K-E-N-T board do it doesn't justify our sinking that low. If it was a Can't player who did this, there would be jokes about it on this board.Oh, and the thing about not being able to outrun the cops did make me snicker.LOL.How much you wanna bet they were laughing about that very same thing down at the station.Get off your high horse
w00t
It's pretty disappointing that individuals of such ill character are enrolled at UA at all, let alone representing us in athletic competition. At least he never actually took the court for us.
Zip N' Dots
This story is all over the place as well it should be but the most disheartening thing is that we get all of this negative attention and he hasn't even played for us. Also, hopefully this doesn't affect all the positives in and around the team right now!

At least he never actually took the court for us.Nor to the best of my knowledge was he even recruited by us. The best thing for him probably would have been to stay at Niagara, away from the rough crowd back in his old neighborhood. Props to the local guys who keep their noses clean and get the job done in the classroom and in the game.
RowdyZip
As a PR major at UA, the best thing to possibly happen right now is to have Media Relations to print up a press release minimizing the contact of this guy with the Akron program. It needs to be stated immediately that he was a walk-on, non-scholarship transfer who had never seen the court. UA needs to state cutting of all ties between this young man and the program. It's obvious to us fans that coach D won't deal with these sort of issues, but it needs to be stated to the general public. After all, we aren't K-ent State. Captain Kangaroo
When Brooks was a senior in HS he campaigned for a UA scholarship in the Beacon. Dambrot didn't want to give him one, so Brooks went to Niagara. After a year, the kid wants to come home, and KD does him a favor by letting him walk on. And this is the thanks he gets. The kid had a chance to be part of something really special at UA over the next 3 years. Instead he'll spend the next 20 years behind bars. Pretty stupid decision.I'm presently sitting in downtown Akron awaiting my call for jury duty at the court house. I'll keep my eyes open for him. zippyrifle32
then in all reality it's a good thing he got caught before doing something else, possibly worse. firing a gun at the police? he's lucky he isn't dead.
RowdyZip
then in all reality it's a good thing he got caught before doing something else, possibly worse. firing a gun at the police? he's lucky he isn't dead.If you read the updated story from the beacon, it almost appears as Brooks was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe I'm seeing it with Zips-colored glasses, but it seems to me he knew he was in association with some shady characters and once the whole thing went down, attempted to run to avoid being caught in the vehicle with this guy. Either way, it's clear that UA should have no association with Mr. Brooks, regardless of the outcome of his pending trial. There's no room for kids that choose to run with the wrong crowd on this team. Coach Dambrot is attempting to separate the UA basketball team from the rest of the state and guys hanging out with/being common thieves should not and will not be tolerated.
