Plus solidifying our resume with winning our final 2 games will likely qualify us for the BE Tournament. I hope our team does not look ahead but takes care of each game and lets the rest play out as it will.

24 shots and only 10 on goal. From what I recall at least 5 of those were directly at the GK’s body. Shots off target over the goal or wide; Dismal shooting. If I were a forward or attacking mid on a quality Zips program, I think I would ask my coaches for some recommendations of what to do to work on my shooting and go do so with my fellow forwards/AMs on our own in addition to that done in training with the coaches. Love these guys but beyond frustrated with the inability to make good shots when they do shoot.

Here’s Ben’s PK save…

That was fun. Congratulations Ben!!!

My understanding was that Ezana Kahsay (not a team captain) challenged his teammates following the late season (Oct 20, 2018) loss at shite Northern Illinois. After that the Zips went on a 9-game winning streak ... capturing the MAC Tournament title on the road at WVU, then winning a 1st round NCAA game at home, and Round of 32, 16, and Elite 8 games on the road and crushed Michigan State 5-1 in the College Cup semifinal in Santa Barbara before being defeated by Maryland 0-1 in the NCAA Championship game; a winning streak that included defeating #1 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC. Does our 2026 team have a catalyst and the heart to put together such a run? With determination and some help, we can still make the BE Tournament; With RPI currently at 11, we're still in position to earn a seed in the NCAA Tournament, but only if this team has the mentality to come together and make it happen. We've been treated to some nice Zips' crowds on the road this season supporting this team. I just booked travel for the game at Marquette on Nov 6th. Come on Zips, make this happen!!!

Happy to get out of Cleveland with the (ugly) W, but this is frustrating as H*LL. This team is so much more talented than they're playing. Love these guys, but they have to stop hanging their heads and decide to fix this. The coaches can only do so much. The players have to own this. It is theirs to be mediocre or come together like the 2018 Zips, who finished the season strong and went all the way to the College Cup final ... unseeded and on the road to win the MAC Tourney at WVU and defeat Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Stanford to get to Santa Barbara.

…and Paiva and Perez.

The lack of finishing is maddening. How many open chances not taken. Why are our players so timid about shooting? Sending one over the open goal from point blank range with little to no pressure should not happen; and then a few moments later taking out your frustration on a play giving the ref an opportunity to send you off with a red card is totally unacceptable. I'm not sure this team yet believes in itself. The wins v St Louis, Cornell, and Syracuse should have solidified that belief, but I'm not sure it's there yet. Down a goal, down a man, and dealing with another questionable referee ... not allowing a goal and finding one to tie, I sure hope brings it.

Agreed. However, it's frustrating that these Zips don't seem to start games with that inspiration. 90 minutes, please.

from https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/soccer/rules/2026PRXSO_D1RulesChanges.pdf VIDEO Review Rule 5.7.1 Changes to Video Review procedures as follows: Referees can initiate a review at any time for timing issues or for the ball crossing the endline. All other reviews will require a coach’s challenge. Each team will have two (2) challenges per match. If a team is out of challenges, the referee can initiate a review on their own during the last 10 minutes of regulation or in overtime. Rationale: This will eliminate uncertainty over when a review should take place and will reduce unnecessary reviews. Coaches will have more control over the decision to review a play. Rule 5.7 Permit the addition of the following offenses by the attacking team as reviewable play situations: • A foul prior to the scoring of a goal; • A foul or an offside prior to the award of a penalty kick or the issuing of a red card for Denial of an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity; and • Offside prior to the scoring of a goal. Rationale: Increases fairness and aligns with current practice under IFAB. GK Delay Rule 12.3.1.1 If goalkeepers hold onto a live ball for more than eight (8) seconds, a corner kick will be awarded. Note: The official will visually and verbally count down the last five (5) seconds. Rationale: This will reduce the amount of time consumed by goalkeepers holding onto the ball. This aligns with IFAB in terms of the count and the penalties for violations.

@csims0917 My understanding is that the NCAA treats a No Contest (WVU game) for the most part as though it never happened / was never scheduled; it does not affect SOS, RPI, or any stats (unsure about any yellow or red cards).

I know goal scoring is the glamorous part of the game. I LOVE it, too! Jack Roman's chip over the Cuse GK and Remi's golazo game-winner were awesome. However, Brett Kaminski was MotM last night. 3 saves, including the PK. Zips could have easily been chasing this game if not for Brett.
