  1. When the Zips lose games likes this, it imperils their chances of getting into the ACC (sorry, just resurrecting a ridiculous conversation from last year). The loss was about what I expected. I'd much rather see them with a road loss to Creighton than a home win against Adrian. It certainly prepares them better for the rest of the season.

  2. Of course there will be a wide open competition for all of the WR positions next year. However, with Jerome Lane to the NFL and Kentucky transfer TE Darryl Long (6-4 246) eligible to play for the Zips in 2017, I think Mykel-Traylor Bennett may emerge in Lane's vacated starting X-WR spot. Austin Wolf should hold on to the starting Z-WR spot.

  3. I don't see this necessarily bringing waves of fans in, but it is nice to see them try something new to try to get fans more engaged in the game. Who knows it might provide a few smirks and a couple laughs. I'm all for anything that improves the atmosphere, especially in a contest the Zips hopefully run away with.

  4. YES, the early Huggins OVC years was the last time I remember seeing that. And Since I was still a student, I was one of the guilty ones. The problem is, I was way up in the bleachers back then, and could hit the floor with my 25 year old arm. Today, I'm afraid that I might dislocate my shoulder from 10 feet away (Insert toilet paper emoticon here). Will this actually get some students to attend? I see weak student turnout for a game like this, and I am actually going to be pretty disappointed when I only see 10 rolls of TP being thrown.

  5. He suffered an injury his senior year of HS. We took a chance on him and he never panned out, so he transferred.

  6. PLEASE....someone video this, and post it here. What is the over/under of rolls on the court? This surely could be taken wrong way. ...but does have possibility of making a Friday ESPN piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF5fXJI3XIo

  8. This has to be a joke. We can't throw items on the floor during play.

  9. Well I guess we're going to have to go 13-0 next season and test this theory...

  11. I agree Balsy. He won't get drafted. But I will hold out hope that he somehow can make a squad. I really don't understand the move. One more year of college could make a huge difference, vs. how I believe this will turn out for him right now.

  12. Thought the Zips played pretty well, no complaints here. The double teams on Big Dog early were effective and that was a big factor. Have seen the Zags twice this season and they are outstanding. The word huge doesn't do justice to describe the size they can throw at you. They can really shoot it too. I saw one of their 7 footers knock down a catch and shoot 3 pointer with zero hesitation. Unreal.

  13. I do not share your frustration as there were too many positives in this game. Kwan a senior, lead this team with 17 points and played great defense. You have to love a kid that has a great game against good competition. If Kwan plays like that in Cleveland we will be tough. Jimond, played the most minutes of anyone on the team playing great defense. He is the most athletic Zip, good rebounder, and has quickness. Hopefully, this will convince KD that he should start and we are done with the 3 guard starting offense. Jimond deserves a start even when Noah comes back and Josh should come off the bench. I thought Antino did well attacking the basket although at times he got into trouble. He is the one Zip that can create his own shot with his step back jumper. This was a great learning experience for Dunn Martin. I saw him make a nice runner. He has to learn to attack the basket rather than shooting a quick 3. Most importantly, at Villanova last year this team got blown out in the second half. Here, this team made a comeback in the second half and cut into the lead. This team played with heart in the second half making key shots. They could not get key stops down the stretch. Since this was their first game against a ranked opponent, a 10 point loss in a well played game is not a frustrating loss.

  14. I thought Akron played well. We slowed the pace down as much as possible. We did not get blown out. I would hope that KD replays the tape of this game to make this team realize that a good team does not rely on the 3 ball, uses gives and goes, and uses of the ball picks to get inside position. We did a terrible job in the first half with our spacing and they were able to double and triple team Big Dog forcing him into turnovers. Our spacing was much better in the second half and Big Dog was able to get to the basket. Our guards are not big enough or physical enough to keep them away from the basket. I agree with everyone that Josh needs to work on his defense. He is definitely a step slow. Needs to play at a quicker level. Our defense was good at times and they still scored because of their talent. We needed Antino and Dunn Martin to shoot better to win this game. I give Kwan a lot of credit. He shot the ball well and had a game high 17 points against good competition. Had 2 bad turnovers, an offensive foul and a travel. Jimond played great defense and played a game high 38 minutes!! Would have liked to see him attack the basket more. I hate seeing him standing on the wing. This allowed his man to double team Big Dog. I thought we rebounded well but still missed a couple of box outs that cost us easy rebounds. Loved watching Creighton push the ball. They got several easy baskets just running down the court beating the Akron players down the court. Hopefully, Akron can build off this loss. Go Zips!

  15. +1 The coaches obviously had Tommy's best interest in mind. Current & future players should respect and love that the coaching staff is willing to lose a game rather than put a hobbled player out there and risk further injury. Very unselfish move by Coach Bowden.

  16. He's going to go somewhere much more high profile than Akron, but Lynn Bowden might be the best HS player I've ever seen.
