  1. As the 2017 class nears it's completion, I want to thank Zach, Blue & Gold, zzx and Zipsoutsider for their outstanding contributions to the recruiting thread. As an independent site with no paid writers or budget, ZipsNation is what you make it. And you guys made it an excellent resource through your effort, time and Zips Football passion. I've never met any of you...probably never will...but I've very grateful for your above-and-beyond efforts to make this site as good as it can be. Zips fans both far-and-wide appreciate it.

  2. @ZipsVoice if you are someone inside the Athletics Department (even if you are not), please take this as constructive criticism, as it is meant...Sean's coverage of Zips Mens Soccer during the season was practically non-existent. Mens Soccer is the only Zips sports team that has won a team national championship and consistently gets to and makes deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. Whether you're personally a soccer fan or not, you cannot deny that interest in the sport continues to grow significantly in the USA. I saw numerous tweets yesterday about the upcoming national signing day for Football and nothing about soccer signing day...not a peep. With the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in the hex for the 2018 World Cup and the CONCACAF Gold Cup games that will be held in Cleveland, and will likely have former Zips involved, it's incredible to me that UoA does so little to generate interest in our program. I suggest getting Sean some help rather than making excuses. Is there no way to involve an undergrad who might volunteer so that he/she can add the experience to a resume? Perhaps the undergrad does the "leg work" but Sean finalizes the release.

  4. Hunter Corne received all NLI yesterday and will fax it in between 8-830. Actual media signing is not till 4pm and didn't want the coaches to have wait on it.

  7. I understand the emphasis on more football coverage. Larry Wiliams, et al, need to find a way to fill seats in Infocision Stadium to justify the expense of the Football Program. The problem is that throwing more good money after bad isn't going to solve that problem. Bowden needs W's. Getting to and winning the Potato Bowl (lowest paying D1 bowl), then going backwards the following year is not going to get it done. The Potato Bowl was a good step forward but there was no foundation for the next step. Personally, I'm done with it. Mostly because it's the same ole same ole...nothing new. But also because if they can't find it in the budget to provide more $'s for their best team sport, then I will...even if it's not that much of a bump up and comes at the expense of another Zips sport that is lower on my list.

  9. Got it guys, I understand. Just sitting here in my hotel room in Virginia watching EPL lead up to liverpool v. Chelsea, so you don't have to tell me about the growing love of "football" here. Can't disagree either with national signing day, for both sexes. Last few years have been awful tough to get names and numbers, and they were usually found on Top Drawer or NSCCA websites. Maybe a reflection on Larry Williams' emphasis on more football coverage? Don't know...

  10. USA 0, Serbia 0 | International Friendly Recap ...NAGBE STARS: Timbers coach Caleb Porter recently noted that Darlington Nagbe's best position was wide left and the 26-year-old proved him right on Sunday with a showing that MLS fans are used to seeing: exquisite touch, slippery movements and the ability to maintain possession and jumpstart the attack, including from his own half. ...

  11. 2 times into the rankings in the last 5 years would be huge for growing the fanbase around NEO. Winning a tourney game would too. Why can't we just go have both?

  16. Thats a 30 passenger embraer 120 from Air charter express. Yes its a turboprop but it specializes in transporting sports teams and travels @350 mph direct from Akron to Dekalb_which sure beats a bus or flying into Ohare. Unfortunately, I believe we chartered to NIU last year and still lost. Lets hope the result is better this time.

  17. Hindsight is 20/20. Unlike in football where you have 20-25 scholarships a year to give out, in basketball you have maybe 2-3. In the case of McCollum we only had 1 scholarship available and it went to this kid by the name of Zeke Marshall. Every program in the country, Lehigh included, would have taken Zeke over McCollum coming out of high school if they had to choose between the two.
