---Nice throw from QB Nick Johns (I think) to WR Brandon Mitchell--- ball got there quick with minimum loft ---#52 C Lavonne Gauthney gets out-manned by #97 NT Brennan Williams in that line drill As I pointed out before, Brandon Mitchell was listed at 6-7 on the Wilmington roster --- plus his HS coach said he was 6-6 in an article when Mitchell was beginning his JR year in high school2 points

I saw that too...commits to the Zips...signs with Rice...plays for Villanova...then transfers to Oregon. Advice to his wife.... get a pre-nup.2 points

Woodson is an unknown quantity. We have no idea when he'll return and don't know how he'll be when he returns. Who knows what set backs he may encounter. We finished the season with our 3rd string QB (a WR) throwing passes because the 2 guys ahead of him were too banged up to play. We lost our best offensive lineman so what's to say our QBs won't continue to take lots of hits? I went with Kato as a guess, but I don't know how you can say definitively that Woodson is the correct answer. Had he played all 12 games last season and not had offseason surgery, I'd agree with you. But he was injured last season and did have offseason surgery which impacts his availability this fall.2 points

Agreed. And when it wasn't working he'd make me want to jump off of the top of the JAR.1 point

I also saw a nice deep sideline catch by Kwadarius Smith. Jamal Davis is going to help turn this year's D around. Brandon Mitchell has to be the WR who we think is mistakenly listed at 6'2", right? Wasn't it posted somewhere on here that he's 6'7"? He looks a lot taller than 6'2" in that clip.1 point

If Woodson can only play like he did against Buffalo, his career is over. If he can still sling it like he did against Marshall, the job is his. I'm just glad to have multiple options at the QB position if the starter goes down, instead of AJ Coney trying to QB us to the Bahamas Bowl.1 point

I'm pretty much with Keener on this one. I really have no clue. If I go with my gut, I think Woodson is an afterthought. I truly believe he had attitude issues and the staff tried to step him away from the position due to his lack of leadership. If I had to make a guess, I will say that Kato Nelson will be the man. He looked legit in his highlight video's (not that it means anything). I also think he checks all the boxes in what Bowden wants as a QB. Plus, I think we have a downtick in talent at the receiver position, but Nelson combined with ball could be a lethal combo in the backfield. I remember watching chapmans high school videos and I thought he was a terrible passer. I got just the opposite from Nelson. We shall see, but Bowden is itching to have a legit dual threat guy under center.1 point

I don't have any. The only insight I ever had was what my eyes and ears told me. I am glad to give an opinion when I have one but I don't here. To answer the original poster's question, I have no basis to go on other than a hunch. I do not know the seriousness of Woodson's condition nor do I know where his head is. I would be glad to speak about what I think about Kato if I knew anything. I don't. I know as much about him as everyone else does. I watched his high school highlight reel. I was very happy to attend practice whenever I could and make observations and give my take to ZN.o. So was Zipgrad01. So was Zips_win! So was JohnnyZip84. In 2015, practices were closed, ostensibly to keep the lid on the read one and run offense that we we going to unleash on an unsuspecting Oklahoma Sooner squad and bring back the victory from Norman. The observing and reporting was left up to George Thomas to let everyone know how the roster was competing. I made my feelings about this development clear when it happened. Shutting out real fans of the program was not a wise decision in my estimation, but no one asked me what I thought. I think your point about Chapman is a good one and it makes predicting the qb situation difficult. The staff pushed all their chips into the middle of the table for him and by what all of our collective eyes saw from him on the field make this decision a real head scratcher. Who knows what might happen.1 point

Need more bowl seasons. I went to The Score (formerly known as Pint's..i still miss Pint's) to watch the Potato Bowl with some friends. Had a better time than I ever did in college watching them. It was neat seeing a bar full of people that were into every play of a game that featured our football team. Got to have more of those seasons, and probably an exceptional season to get people truly on board.1 point

I attend the weekday games even though they totally blow. On a Saturday gameday, I get to the parking lot at 8 in the morning and get my tailgate on. The actual game takes a lesser amount of time than the pregame. I like it that way. I like to blow an entire day on Zips football and have a good time doing it. I like tailgating so much that I have actually taken 2 days of vacation to be able to do it on these abhorrent weekday games. One day to tailgate and the next just because driving an hour home to unload the vehicle at 1 a.m. just doesn't cut it when you need to get up for work at 6 and actually be worth a crap the next day. Last year, I just came up after work, watched the game and went home. Yes, on my way home I asked myself "Why didn't you just stay home and watch on TV?" because as GP1 so delicately put it weekday games are like putting your balls in a vise for 3 hours. I care enough to be there. I have only missed 3 games at Infocision and those 3 games were not missed by my decision. They were missed because of incontestable obligations. I think I have earned my right to opine that the weekday games are absolutely awful. Anyone is certainly welcome to disagree with me, but if you do, could you please tell me which of the weekday games that you attended over the last 8 years were ones that you went home feeling good afterward.1 point

You're right, if people want to go, they will. And that will happen no matter what day the game is. The fair weather casual Zips football fan (me) would go (and have gone) if it's a nice day on a Saturday. The chances of me going to a Tuesday night MAC football game is about zero.1 point

Not enough people want to go to an Akron football game. The ones who do will be there.1 point

I'd argue politics has had a large, if not larger role in turning schools into businesses. The relentless cutting of public funds for education have forced this culture more than athletics ever did. Athletics became a part of the competition for limited resources, which in this case is students paying $$$. In 1984 for public institutions public funding was somewhere around 55%-60% of a University's operating budget. As of 2014 it's around 20% or less.1 point

I'm with you. To say that Zeke was not an impact player is ludicrous. He is the all-time shot block leader for the conference. Let me know when someone breaks that. Could Zeke have been better? Of course, but that can be said about EVERY PLAYER THAT EVER LACED 'EM UP. The hyperbole on this board is ridiculous at times.1 point
