  2. We're getting into the "dog days" of the schedule too, where those nagging injuries don't seem to go away, and practices get less and less fun. With WMU coming off such a tough game, and the Zips coming off a comparative "bye week," you'd hope we have some fresher legs than the Broncos. If we can jump on them early, I like our chances. If we start off slow...as we have in all three losses...the game will go as the oddsmakers predict. I was at the Hudson/Stow game last night. Up 14-10 at the half, Stow on-side kicked to begin the 2nd half. They recovered, and immediately scored a TD. Hudson never recovered. I'd love to see the Zips get a little creative on Saturday. We need to do something "extra" if we're going to beat a team like WMU on the road.

  3. Cumquats and grapes comparison. Soccer is different than football to sports fans. A conference championship, some bowl wins and a win over non garbage teams would help immensely.

  5. IMHO CP got a bum's rap, mainly from Jurgen after the Olympic team failure to qualify, but I am/was too close to the situation with his tenure at the U. Gulati is an ass, and until he is sent packing by the Directors or resigns, things will stay the same. I'd love to think Caleb is to be considered, but not by the current regime....

  6. The biggest surprise is probably Buffalo. Even in their losses they were very competitive. Its early but teams are performing a bit as expected.

  8. We have dissected CP for decades now, some since before he came to Akron. We know he has warts; he is not perfect. He can be annoyingly stubborn. Arrogant. We also know that CP is a natural, perhaps even gifted, leader of men. He is passionate about soccer, in the very essence of that word. USSF could do much worse than Caleb Porter.

  9. Interesting article that showed in your link. Apparently "white privilege " is holding back progress for USA soccer. Who knew! https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/jun/01/us-soccer-diversity-problem-world-football

  10. I don't see how were're the "surprise of the league?" We've beaten no noteworthy opponent. 3-3 is where just about anyone would have predicted us at this point. I don't think we're a "puzzle" either. We-are-who-we-are...an essentially star-free team that, when we play mistake-free football can be competitive with anyone at our level. Our defense continues to improve, and will be near the top of the MAC (3rd...4th best...) when all is said and done. Our offense needs to step it up. We need to start consistently scoring 30+ if we want to have a winning season. I'm not puzzled.

  12. • Nice feature on the Buddenbergs (10 minutes in). • Defensive play of the day, Brian Bell on 4th and goal, big tackle. • Stock rising, Rutgers transfer Darian Dailey, don't see a lot of stats on him, because teams don't throw his way often. • Everybody in the secondary is back next year, bright future for them and the defense.

  13. The highlight film definitely doesn't floor you, but he put up some big offensive numbers against good competition, and has a 3.8 gpa. We're short-handed, so getting a capable, quality kid like him is probably a good fit for the 2017-18 Zips.

  17. And you can have a "bad" result....or the manager just resigned to the fact, say "at least we got a result" leading by a goal and giving up the equalizer in the closing moments or stoppage time....being an arsenal fan, fknbuflobo can relate to that the past few years! BTW, my conversion from Gooner to a Kopite isn't quite working out the way I anticipated....but at least I'm not constantly screaming at the telly about Wenger and the despised Kroenke!!!
