Looks like @zipsoutsider is volunteering to document defensive scheme versus our formations/personnel Good job man!2 points

Because I voiced an opinion that was against the competence of our OC in no way means I am not thrilled with our victory over a very respected conference opponent. To hint otherwise is just picking a fight. I'll assume that was not your intention. I still do not agree with your argument. Our OC shut down our offense in the second half and showed no creativity when the pass was not working. As for third and two, no team in the world with bad weather needs to throw. If we can't get two yards in two plays we have a bigger problem. Remember we were on their 34 and if the run failed we were not giving up poor field position. When the longer pass (15+ yards) is not working there are other ways to slow their pass rush i.e. screen, counters, trap counters, throwing to the TE, throwing to a back, student body right or left w/QB running, end around, etc. We primarily used the draw or slant. We can do better. If TB keeps his job and that means Milwee continues, so be it. Wilson and Miller will make the best decision they can and I will support them. There is much to like about this team and hope grows for a good future. I want that to continue. I just see a new OC as an area of improvement. If you and others feel otherwise, good for you. At the end of the day we all want the Zips to be outstanding.2 points

He's one of Bowden's farmer players at East-Jesus Alabama (yes I know that's not the name...), Bowden liked him enough to bring him to Akron. Like him enough to give him the reigns of the offense. And has stuck with him despite there being problems of offense to us the outsiders. It just feels like to me he's going above and beyond for Milwee. Nepotism is huge in sports...this is why a lot of guys have jobs in the NFL who aren't that good, and continue to get jobs... I mean, IDK why everyone has had such a negative view of that comment. It was just a feeling...everyone relax.1 point

Amongst the Fans here, I think we could compile our own ZipsNation publication on just the Zips. Between photographers, writers, and stat-watchers, we'd have the most info of any MAC fanbase out there...and we'd put the guy who get's paid to do this crap to shame.1 point

Columbus is just a terrible pro sports market. This move could open up an opportunity for a team in NE Ohio down the line1 point

Yeah, that's not how this old dog hunts... Some is good; more is better I'll give it a whirl and see what I can come up with. I'll DVR the game and that will allow me to go back and get the data after we watch the game. Momma isn't going to let me pause the game to count players on Saturday while it's live but I could do it Sunday morning before the NFL slate.1 point

Damnit... I am reminded, now, of something I heard so often in the Marine Corps... Don't volunteer for anything Having All 22 film would be GREAT. That's the next evolution; All 22 access to collegiate football like Gamepass has for the NFL. Let me see what I can do. You want the personnel packages (11, 12, 21, etc.) or just the receivers in on each play? I guess what I'm asking is, do you want the end game of this data to reflect the personnel packages the Zips are deploying or do you just want to see the snap counts for each player?1 point

4:00ish on the clock: 3rd down and 8 - we run a pass play that was essentially a free play as they jumped - 3rd down and 3 - Tommy runs it to the outside 3:25ish 1st down - up the gut - maybe a yard 3:20 2nd down - 7 yard gain 3:14 3rd down - play action, pass interference results in 1st down (without interference, could have led to TD - wide open space and Coney had the defender beat) 3:06 1st down up the gut, gain of 1 2: 26 - 2nd down up the gut, gain of 2 1:38 3rd down - run to the outside a couple of yards 53:00 4th down - illegal procedure - not a big deal because they could have just easily taken a delay of game, here. 48:3 - 4th down, punt Your offense has essentially done with you wanted them to do and wound the clock down below 1 minute. WMU has been pitiful in the red zone and WMU has no timeouts left. The WMU passing game has not been particularly strong but they have had a little momentum. You have to decide which unit you think has the best chance to win the game for you. Your punter has been doing well pinning teams back inside of the 10 frequently this season and not doing badly during this game. We almost got a running into the kicker call on that, punt, too. The punt was not great, but no return, either. They go with the D and were successful. Just because you disagree with the decision, doesn't make it a bad decision. Also, it could have been a different story altogether had WMU gone for 2 and succeeded after they scored their TD. WMU coached very poorly, most of the day. They should have trusted Franklin to run it about 10-12 more times than they did. We could contain but not really stop him. I will attribute their play calling to playing from behind.1 point

Fire Lester Edit: I just read all 44 pages of the game thread too. It’s interesting and some of it sounds familiar.1 point

That does bring up one question for me. How can WMU do a game broadcast all them selves with multiple cameras and we cant even show replays on our scoreboard?1 point

even Zipsnation with the world is always going to end tomorrow mentality isn't going to steal my joy from this win. Go Zips!!1 point

I did not see the actions that led to these, but the crew led by Amanda Sauer, seems to call more penalties, in particular, holds, than other crews.1 point

Utah State was 6-6 entering the game. The only reason you'd want to state they were 6-7 is if you wanted to diminish the win. The "glorified exhibition," just for clarification, is also known as a "bowl game." The only reason you'd call it otherwise is if you wanted to diminish the win. Amazing that our own fans want to diminish an Akron Zips bowl win. I liked that 2015 Zips team, and appreciate the bowl victory. I thought it was awesome.1 point

I'm not going to get overly excited over this one. It was a great win, no doubt. Unexpected? Absolutely. Now, beat Toledo and I'm going to be losing my mind with excitement. Even if it's a very close game, I'll be ready to talk about a MAC East Championship possibility and a trip to Detroit. The fact of the matter is, we should all still be trying to get a read on this team. They're definitely improving, but what's our ceiling? Like last year, I could see us going anywhere from 9-3 to 5-7. In fact, we'll probably only be favored to win in 2 of our remaining games (Buffalo and Kent).1 point

One thing I don't think we've talked enough about is how we've seen this team improve week-to-week.1 point

http://unitedsoccercoaches.org/web/Rankings/College_Rankings/NCAA_DI_MEN/web/Rankings/NCAA/DI_MEN.aspx zips are #27 in the coaches poll.... I think that SIU-E plays #20 Butler tonight. an SIU-E win tonight and a zips win over SIU-E on Friday night ...would really help the zips in the RPI and of course, a 4-0 homestand...would be the best dose of medicine for the Zips RPI1 point

Ignore all the polls for the entire year. They mean less than nothing as all they do is mislead people into thinking they have some significance when they don't. Instead, I suggest bookmarking your team's RPI worksheet which, if you understand it properly, will reveal your at-large and seeding prospects as November approaches. This is what you need: http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/2017/08/akron.html You might also find this RPI bonus/penalty list useful (not entirely accurate but very close to accurate): http://gauchosoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/RPI_Bonuses.pdf1 point
