Scott, You're bringing back memories. Going all the way back to my early 80's student days, we were filling our coats with beer to go into Zips games. Nobody cared. On days like that, I'd have a can of beer (probably Old Milwaukee....or something similar) and a cup of hot chocolate sitting in front of me on the concrete, and I'd be switching back and forth. Nobody checked your coats and bags back in those days. We weren't yet worried about illegals infiltrating the country to commit terrorism.2 points

We didn't leave.....but we did eventually end up inside some heated area we weren't supposed to be in. Anyhow, we used to smuggle so much beer into those games and on that day there was a real freeze danger. I like to believe that no beer was lost to the conditions....but I honestly can not remember.2 points

Morgan run for nine yards between the tackle and guard. Pass play to TW's left. The one 8 bobbled and almost caught in the end zone. Pass play out of the end zone to 3. Run play Morgan off tackle right. I could post more, but I think you get the idea, no matter run or pass, tackle up, guard down, at least for the BSU game. I'll keep a better eye out Tuesday.2 points

Pass blocking out of a 3 point stance is much easier than run blocking out of a 2. Anyone who doesn't think so, try it in the back yard with your friends.2 points

Good. Nothing irritates me more than lack of discipline. Large reason why we lost vs Troy and let ISU get away from us as much as they did.2 points

Pass blocking out of a 3 pt stance when one has a speedy DE to contend with can be daunting!1 point

You would figure it would be something we would take advantage of. However, I did see that we are having, and will be one of the few MAC schools having 2 scrimmages rather than the normal 1. Maybe that;s taking the place of the extra exhibition game?1 point

Troy leads the nation in red zone defense. Ohio St is 9th, Notre Dame is 14th, the Zips are 19th.1 point

If you can't claim luck for losses you can't claim them for wins. If it's the coach's fault when we lose close, it's the coach's credit when we win close. If you cannot claim a moral victory, you can't claim a moral loss when we win but get outgained on offense. We are winning. I have not hear anyone take an overinflated view if the Zips, except thise who thought we could beat Penn St and Iowa State who are the same crowd clamoring for Bowden's head and Woodson's butt in the bench.1 point

http://wmubroncos.com/news/2017/11/2/mens-soccer-broncos-finish-regular-season-hosting-bowling-green.aspx Western Michigan earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament which will be held at the WMU Soccer Complex. The semifinals of the tournament will take place on Friday, Nov. 10 beginning at 11 a.m. and the championship game will be on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m.1 point

I wouldn't be as concerned as previous seasons. We have a reputation now as a big boy program. We have a handful of marque wins and have been on a tear since the third game of the season. The team that should be concerned is WMU, particularly if we beat them in the MACC. They have no reputation or history, few big wins (vs. us at home and vs. Michigan at home, and maybe at Butler), a bad loss (4-1 at Portland), and a bad tie (at Eastern Illinois). If we win out, we will get a Top 8 seed and have an outside chance at a Top 4 depending on how the rest of the field closes out. On the other hand, if WMU loses to us in the MACC, I think they will be luck to be seeded in the Top 16. Conversely, if we lose the MACC, I think both WMU and UA get Top 12 seeds. Beating us twice in one season would carry A LOT of weight and give them the benefit of the doubt.1 point

Did a quick spreadsheet but it won't translate copy/paste wise. We should know a lot more after this weekend but as of today: 39 eligible teams (50% of 78 Bowl berths) 76 teams could become eligible 15 have been eliminated from contention (barring the need to take a 5-7 team)1 point

...and if the Troy WR would have dropped the ball on their 4th and 5 play, we'd have won instead of lost...and if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle... The Zips earned their wins against Buffalo and WMU. The D made some awesome stands at the end of those games. Hopefully we beat Miami in convincing fashion. A simple 3-point win where the Zips defense holds the opponent under 21 points isn't quite enough to keep some fans from focusing on how they might have lost, rather than how they won.1 point

Thank goodness, I won't need to keep my phone open to track stats any longer.1 point

I've been absent from the board for a while, but have been following consistently ever since. I was a bit shocked to hear KD was leaving, but I am not disappointed or upset. Our program rose to new heights because of him, but it certainly plateaued many years ago. Even he knew that. It was time for him to move on while he was still respected in the profession and young enough to start a new tenure elsewhere. That said, the timing was ideal because Groce was available and interested. Aside from being my doppelganger, Groce is young and has experience winning in the MAC and the NCAAT with a MAC team. New pinnacles await! I think in five years or so, we will find that John Groce is to Keith Dambrot as Caleb Porter is to Ken Lolla. No more excuses about the MAC being a one bid conference or P5's not scheduling us. The bar has been raised.1 point

Z.I.P. - thanks my friend, couldn’t go today or watch online, at a function, but watched your posts through the game and you painted the scene well for me, so,it kept me in touch.1 point

It could never rival the weather on Nov. 24th, 2005, which is the last time we had a game to clinch the MAC East Title. Weather data shows it was 36 for a high, and 14 for a low, with 2.5 inches of snow. Just in case anyone needs to be reminded. The way-too-early forecast shows 57 for a high and sun/cloud mix during the day. It will be a shame no matter what the weather brings, because we'd probably have 5-7k in the seats, even if we produced a 70 degree day.1 point

So a team with only one returning starter, a new coach, and a bunch of other guys who have never played together didn't look that good in their first scrimmage. And everyone has decided we will have a horrible season based on this? Probably the same guys who wanted to fire Bowden (who is probably on the way to another bowl game and has a good shot to take the MAC East). Oh well. WE ARE AKRON.1 point

Exactly. I'll say it for the 100th time. People won't flock to Akron Zips sporting events because we're winning more games. They will start flocking to Akron Zips sporting events when we're winning games that matter.1 point
