https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/louisville/2018/12/27/louisville-soccer-vince-tyra-new-head-coach/2424852002/ ...Fresh from a second-place finish in the NCAA’s College Cup, Akron’s Embick was sure to show up on every serious school's short list. Despite the inherent disadvantages of coaching outside the Power Five Conferences, Akron has won more games (94) in Embick’s six years as head coach than any other Division I program. Previously the program’s recruiting coordinator, Embick’s recruiting classes have ranked first or second nationally six times in the last 10 years. Embick did not respond to a request for comment from the Courier Journal, but U of L board members, boosters and website operators believed he was bound for Louisville as late as last Saturday. “I certainly had a chance to get to know Jared,” Tyra said. “He’s had a terrific career. But I think for different reasons — Akron upping their support of the program (and) probably personal reasons as well — he decided to stay. ... So he kind of dropped out of the process and we continued forward.” ... Although I posted that Coach Embick was staying, I have no knowledge of what UL offered, what UA may have countered, or any idea of any of the details of Jared's decision. All that matters to me, and I hope to everyone of us, is: 1) Jared chose to stay at Akron, which is the most awesome news and gift for us. 2) We, the Zips Men's Soccer supporters and donors --- season ticket holders; fans; UA alumni; team alumni; future supporters, donors, season ticket holders, etc. --- need to continue to push for and find ways to help UA better support our Championship Men's Soccer Program. Sorry to keep repeating myself but realize as this article states...Akron’s Embick was sure to show up on every serious school's short list. I don't see that changing in the future. We have to keep our program strong. Thanks so much for everything all of you do for our program. Let's keep it up and strive to do even better just like we ask of our coaches, staff, and players. We are a team. We are Akron! GO ZIPS!!! #AkronMade3 points

Good for him. He won't get caught up in all the Twitter BS. Too many instances where coaches/players think they are 'invisible' on Twitter and it bites them in the ass. The guy in the White House is a perfect example. There is NO requirement that anybody be on social media!3 points

Never been a Pluto fan even when he was with the Leakin' Urinal. Wonder if he will ever get to the Baseball HOF like his 'buddy' at the ABJ, Sheldon Ocker? It seems Pluto writes the same articles week after week, year after year but just changes some of the names. If you listen to him on WKSU he sounds as if he is preaching to the 'unwashed'.3 points

Or you could just behave yourself and use it as a recruiting tool and a way to engage your fanbase.2 points

One of the greatest college soccer coaches ever has died. His like may never be seen again. https://uclabruins.com/news/2018/12/26/mens-soccer-legendary-ucla-coach-sigi-schmid-passes-away.aspx https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigi_Schmid1 point

I wouldn't be shocked if 90% of FBS coaches had a twitter. This isn't something uncommon and relating with recruits isn't a bad thing.1 point

Managing a Twitter feed would be an unwanted distraction for a coach at his level. Let his assistants do that. Maintaining the brand and image is difficult when your internet presence goes up. To me not having twitter shows discipline and confidence1 point

Yep.Understand your point.I might behave myself. But its not always the person who is behaving himself/herself that causes the problem. Its those folks who don't 'behave' themselves on Twitter that can cause problems. Thousands of people can see your 'tweets' and you don't know who they are. They start posting stuff and it goes on and on. I would have to assume that at least some of his assistants are on Twitter if they want to use that as a recruiting tool. And, they do a lot of the initial recruiting. Phones are still in use. Personal visits though obviously limited are effective. As far as the fan base getting engaged, did Bowden have a Twitter account? I don't know. Want to get a fan base 'engaged'? Win football games!1 point

I expect they will run something eventually.1 point

I agree with this. I remember when the CBI was created that Romeo/Dru Akron team was one that was used as an example as to why the tournament was necessary. The CiT took it a step farther by being mid-major only. I agree these lower tournaments were more of a waste for those less interested Dambrot teams you mention. I don’t, however, think with good coaching that teams should not want to prove themselves in the postseason somewhere. I would hope that if the Zips fall short of the NCAA and are not selected by the NIT that the team would still want to continue to play and make a run at a tournament title.1 point

Winning brings Joe Akron out, if anything. They don't care who the heck the coach is when we're winning 4 or 5 games a year1 point

I feel in general a lot of the good media exposure Arth has received is do to the fact that he's a likable character who from his time at Saint Ignatius and John Carroll has an established relationship with many of these columnists and pundits. I kind of expected the hire to cause more scrutiny, but it really hasn't. We've talked on this board for years about wanting to get the community invested into the Zips program. Arth has come in and appears to have the support of the local media and has emphasized the need to recruit Ohio. If he's not successful in bringing Joe Akron out to games, I'm not sure we'll ever see it happen.1 point

Reportedly spurned by at least three high profile coaches, Louisville (correctly pronounced Loserville) Men's Soccer has finally found their coach from among extant assistants. Louisville KY native John Michael Hayden arguably should have been their choice all along, except for the university's penchant for hostile takeovers and corruption. Nonetheless, John Michael Hayden is a highly regarded up-and-coming coach. So, look out. https://gocards.com/news/2018/12/27/hayden-chosen-to-guide-uofl-mens-soccer-program.aspx1 point

The fact that you are against Arths' hiring makes me feel confident it was the right choice.1 point

Could swear Kosar has been around the program in the last year or so. Maybe I'm just remembering him being at a game or something but this isn't his first appearance.. donors, fans, it can't hurt to have a big area name in a cheerleader sort of role.1 point
