  2. A rivalry is renewed as the 0-4 Ohio Bobcats come to town for Homecoming weekend, fresh off of a 35-6 loss @ Northwestern in which a 55-yard TD run by Ohio's Armani Rogers as the clock expired kept them from being shut out. A familiar name leads the Kitten offensive attack, as former Bobcat QB terror Nathan Rourke's younger brother Kurtis now has the reigns. He leads an offense that puts up just under 14 points per game while the defense has surrenders around 35 a game. They opened the year with a very disappointing 29-9 loss at home to Syracuse, followed by a Gardner-Webbian catastrophic loss to the mighty Duquesne Dukes (not basketball) by a 28-26 final. Former Zip punter Jonah Wieland has been dynamite for the Bobcats. Nobody will ever forget the 37-34 triumph over Ohio in November of 2017. That's Akron's only win over the Bobcats since 2007, which is still mind blowing. Do yourself a favor and do NOT look at the box score from this game in 2019. I care about you, don't do it. The Zips open as 9-point home underdogs. I was quite surprised. That's a lot of points. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see Akron lose 35-10. Hope for the best.....GO ZIPS!

  4. This is missing the point. It’s not payday games in general, it’s scheduling the best-of-the-best, at this point in our programs “development”, instead of the other 70% of schools we could schedule for payday games; games in which we may have a slight chance at not becoming a state-wide laughing stock. It’s Monday, as a known Zips fan I now can enjoy being mocked & having eyes rolled at me at work today. Auburn and Ohio State, this year, with this team, was imbecilic.

  5. The irony of one knowledgeable poster being upset about "way under the scholarship limit" and several others complaining about payday games (which has gone on for decades) would be funny. If it wasn't Zips fans.

  6. All i gotta say is $$$$$ dosen't grow on trees and when you can only draw less than 9,000 to a 30,000 seat stadium I dunno what and how folks expect the athletic department to generate revenue. For example That school in Columbus we just played generates $15 mil in revenue every home game compared to Akron who takes a financial loss not only every home game but also every conference road game too. Yeah good ol Bryant will draw fans huh So yall want more of this?

  7. I do not know Guthrie. I do not know Arth. I do not know anyone in Akron's athletic department. But, I do know that if there was a way to generate that kind of cash that the department needs without having to go get beat by 52 or 50 by Ohio State and Auburn, I know they'd listen. Absent that...you're gonna see Akron play money games most years.

  9. Unless you have a mil to donate to the athletic department I wouldn't comment on scheduling. As of now Power 5 payments cover our negligent fan base

  12. Well said, Grandma. I'm still fuming about this schedule. We need the Vanderbilt's (SEC) and the Purdue's (B1G), Not Auburn and Ohio State. For. Crying. Out. Loud. This was absolutely NOT the year for this sort of schedule. Where was the adult in the room when the imbecilic idea of scheduling both Auburn and Ohio State was tossed out for discussion?

  13. Since I paid for Prep Hoops/Illinois let's see what kind of fun Coach Groce & Company has been having in my backyard regarding the 2023 class. The following six prospects from Illinois already have offers from Akron. Posted On: 09/19/21 Davius Loury (Kenwood) 6-7 PF Current Ranking: #5 Loury is a power forward from Kenwood that sometimes gets caught in Javonte Taylor's (#1 Prospect) shadow, but he is a high-major prospect in his own right. When he is at his best Loury is playing with a high motor making plays as an inside/outside threat. Capable of knocking down shots, winning on drives, pounding opponents in the post, and rebounding. Miles Rubin (Simeon) 6-8 PF Current Ranking: #9 Rubin is making the move over from HF for his junior year. The lefty four man is so quick around the hoop getting on the glass, swatting shots, and throwing down dunks. Excellent getting on the offensive glass for second chance points. One of the higher ceiling posts in the class. Wesley Rubin (Simeon) 6-8 PF Current Ranking: #17 The other Rubin twin is another D1 prospect. He is a righty, thicker build, and more offensively skilled. High level passer that slices up defenses with his distributing skills out of the post. Touch around the hoop and can put it on the deck. Daniel Johnson (Whitney Young) 6-6 G/SF Current Ranking: #8 The three and D wing is all the rage and that is exactly what this Whitney Young small forward brings to the table. Multi positional defender that uses his length and lateral quickness to lock down on the perimeter. On the other end is among the top snipers in the class with his free and ease release off the catch. Sam Lewis (OPRF) 6-5 G/SF Current Ranking: #10 Lewis is another top notch shot maker which is where he makes his money. Was outstanding this summer as a spot up shooter draining threes in bunches game after game. Quick and concise release with consistent accuracy. Ty Pence (St. Joseph Ogden) 6-6 G/SF Current Ranking: #11 Pence is among the better prospects from central Illinois in the 2023 class. The two guard showed well when we saw him in late June. Better athlete than given credit as he can get up for an alley-oop and showed some burst off the dribble. Effective scoring off both movement and with the ball in his hands. Kudos to Scott Burgess/Prep Hoops. Go Zips!!
