  1. Joe Mo: "Too... Much... P5... Talent... Not sure... How we'll... Manage..." So far, that's the only challenge Joe Mo has faced with the TP.

  2. Mike Farrell didn't get the A logo memo. That aside, the MAC is absolutely 💩ing its pants. Akron has the 2nd highest Transfer Portal class ranking in the MAC (#69; Buffalo is #30), one ahead of Ohio State even. The next closest is Miami OH at 87. Buffalo did have a phenomenal off-season Portal wise. However you take the talent Akron has amassed and combine it with the complete overhaul of the coaching staff, and we're already in the upper echelon of the MAC on paper. From worst to first is not out of the realm of possibility.

  6. Love the potential of this pickup! I’m not sure what the deal was at Memphis, but Nelson was a stud in high school. Rivals had him rated as a 5.5 - 3 star when he probably should have been 5.7 (their 3 stars are from 5.5-5.7). He’s more in line with Cam Threatt. Nelson has long arms, flips his hips well, and is excellent at getting his hand in to break up the pass. He, unlike some of the CBs we have on the roster now, has the burst to cover ground quickly if he gets disconnected from his man. Nelson will come down hill and hit as he displays plenty of physicality. Not all of these transfers will pan out, but no one can rightfully argue about the physical talent and potential the staff continues to bring in.

  7. 247 listed him at 5'10", Memphis had him at 5'11", and we get him at 6'0". 😉

  8. Copying this from the Class of 2023 as I believe it was posted there in error... He is a transfer from Memphis. Redshirt Freshman. Multiple P5 offers out of high school, including South Carolina, Indiana, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee, etc., as he was rated the #78 CB in the country in his class. Looks like we'll have him for 4 years. https://gotigersgo.com/sports/football/roster/devonte-golden-nelson/9631 https://247sports.com/Player/Devonte-Nelson-46057678/TimelineEvents/

  12. I do not think this is the right place for this post, so I am asking a moderator to move to its rightful place. I commented in the QB preview that we are down to 3 QBs on the roster with Undercuffler being the fourth. Need more depth at this critical position. . Kickers - Only Smigel PK and Romenick K are on the roster, glad we have 3 recruits in Gettman, Paxos, and Perez. OLB - looking at the Gozips roster, it looks like the numbers are down, but I cannot name the reductions. ILB and S - again, it looks like the numbers are down, but I cannot name reductions. Although no Zip has showed up in the Transfer Portal, it looks like roster reductions have begun. This is great news to shed the non D1 players from the roster. Go Zips!!!!

  13. It won’t be easy, that’s for sure. Tennessee’s offense moves faster than any we’ll see this year. They put a lot of stress on the middle of the field and can hang points up in a hurry.

  14. Clark, l tend to agree with you. I feel ball security has been an issue. Both decision making and security issues could go away with maturity. If he develops confidence in himself and THOSE around him, maybe he won't try to do too much on his own. From a distance, that seems to be the issue.

  15. My copy of the University of Akron Magazine arrived in the mail today. There is a nice interview with Coach Moorhead on page 14. My favorite part follows: What are the similarities and differences for you between teaching and coaching? As a coach I view myself as an educator. Anything that a teacher is trying to accomplish from a methodological and development standpoint are all the same things we’re doing in football. It’s just a different medium. As a teacher, you do your research on the material, you present it to the students, they study and then you have a method of ensuring they understand the material. In a classroom, a test is done in a quiet, sterile environment with a lack of distractions and variables. As a coach you do the same things leading up to the test. But for the test, you may do it in front of thousands of screaming people, in the rain, with people trying to rip the pen out of your hand and kick the chair out from underneath you.

  16. EKU Bio Played in all 12 games his freshman year. Started all 11 games last season and had a couple INT's (the Zips only had 6 as a team in 2021). We aren't exactly overflowing with talent on the defensive side of the ball. I would expect him to be in the mix for a starting job. Bright kid...offered by Cornell, and was Scholar Athlete of the Year at his HS.
