9. And ironically both St. John's and Providence, two BigEast teams share the record.3 points

You are correct @Zip_ME87 Per NCAA.com No more golden goal in the postseason The rule: The days of the golden goal are over. As of 2022, if a postseason game (meaning conference or NCAA tournament) is tied after 90 minutes, overtime will not end when one team scores a goal. Even if a team scores seconds after kickoff in the first OT period, the game must continue until both 10-minute periods have been completed. Should the score remain even after both OTs, a penalty kick shootout will decide the winner. What it means: While golden goal rules seem to generate exciting finishes in knockout soccer, in theory, the sudden-death rules affect the quality of play in practice. Often, neither team commits numbers forward for fear of leaving itself vulnerable to a tournament- or season-ending counterattack goal. The general idea behind this rule change is to improve the quality of play, giving teams a chance to get back into the game even after conceding in overtime.2 points

I'll explain my thumbs down / $0.02. The NCAA soccer season is compressed, as we all know, with teams often playing 3 games every 7 days. Consider the effect that an extra 140 minutes would have on the health of our players. How many more might have significant injuries? Personally, I think the NCAA eliminating regular season OT not only better aligns NCAA rules with FIFA rules but is in the best interest of the student-athletes. Of course, it doesn't matter at this point in 2023. Post-season games include OT as needed. As I recall, the current NCAA OT rules are: 2 OTs, 10 minutes each, no sudden victory. If still tied after the full 20 minutes OT, then PK shootout. Someone please correct me if that is not correct.2 points

I mean, context is important. We lost our best shot at winning games by losing our top option at the most important position in football. The real failure this season is the staff's apparent failure to have even a playable back up. We currently have 5 playable scholarship QBs and the 2 the staff have played so far have been horrid. Very interested to see what the staff does with the position next season. A high profile transfer (for MAC standards) is a must, and we should probably send a few packing if they can't get on the field considering what those above them on the depth chart have done. Overhaul is needed.2 points

... and that 'win' just plain SUCKED/felt terrible. The 'highlight' of this season will be when the clock hits 00:00 in late-November. Life-long Zips fan but no way I attempt to put ANY lipstick on this pig.2 points

This is what the quarterfinals matchups look like....(when Sunday morning RPI's and records are included) Top Half of the Draw Georgetown vs. Seton Hall Georgetown is 6 in RPI overall record of 11-2-2 and 6-1-1 in leage Pirates are 63 in RPI Overall record of 8-5-3 and 3-4-1 in league St. John's vs. UConn Johnnies are 52 in RPI overall record of 8-3-5 and 3-1-4 in league UConn is 65 in RPI overall record of 8-7-1 and 4-4 in league Bottom Half of Draw Providence vs. Creighton Providence is 56 in RPI overall record of 7-5-3 and 4-2-2 in league Creighton is 99 in RPI ovcerall record of 4-6-6 and 3-3-2 in league Xavier vs. Akron Xavier is 62 in RPI overall record of 7-3-5 and 4-1-3 in league Akron is currently 35 in RPI overall record of 9-1-7 and 2-1-5 in league Akron was 27 in RPI before they tied a Butler team that had only won 2 games all year. Akron dropped 8 spots in RPI with a tie against #113 in RPI (Butler) If Akron loses in regulation or overtime at Xavier, I agree that they would probably drop to the mid 40's in RPI (Akron record would be 9-2-7) If the loss were to occur on PK's, Akron record would be 9-1-8...and the RPI drop would probably not be as steep as a straight out loss I view the game at Xavier as a must win for the Zips. If they lose in 90 minutes at Xavier, I do believe that the zips season is over. Georgetown is the only Big East team......that is certain of a spot in the NCAA tournament....even if they don't win the Big East tournament. The Big East is probably hoping for a Georgetown vs Akron final....as they are the 2 highest RPI teams. A Georgetown vs. Akron final would probably guarantee that the Big East would have 2 teams playing in the NCAA tournament. Practice your PK's this week, Zips. I have a feeling that PK's are in the future for the Zips in the Big East tournament.2 points

Makes sense. He clearly wanted to stay home and DePaul gives him the most exposure as a Big East squad.1 point

And yet if we lose at Xavier in the Big East Tournament, with only two losses, we likely won't make the NCAAT. Bring back over time! In the sport as a whole, ties only make sense in a table format in which team plays every other team home and away and there are thirty-eight games to separate the quality of teams. Ties in NCAA soccer are unjust.1 point

If Zips lose @ Xavier, it would make us a bubble team with RPI in mid 40s. A mediocre finish to the season and 7th place in conference is not a favorable resume for an At Large invitation. Zips best take care of business @ Xavier or the season might be over.1 point

No. Pass on Bullock. Time to see Jennings or Wasel. JM himself visited each of them at their houses multiple times to recruit them. I'd like to see what they have since he went after them. Bullock has looked bad thus far and wasn't exactly a guy Akron was desperately trying to get. His old college was happy to see him leave in the portal. This season is over, why not see what one of the high school recruits have to offer? Literally the Zips have nothing to lose seeing what one of the young guys has to offer. But sure, Bullock, we can start him. Yawn.1 point

My final prediction: Akron 2, Kent State 0 - 8 OT, Akron misses 13 field goals over the course of the game, thanks to Kent State kicking onside kicks left and right giving the Zips an average starting field position of the KSU 10 Total yards KSU: -127, UA: -112 Final play, KSU lines up for a 2 pt. conversion in the top of the eighth overtime, only for the center to somehow snap the ball 108 yards over the QB's head resulting in a safety good guys win. In all seriousness, I'm really not sure what to expect anymore. I think we all expect an L at this point, but I'm sure the feeling is mutual for Portage Co. HS, I really thought we had a great chance against BGSU. We did until we decided to run Madden plays and self destruct. For the sake of my bias, I'll say Zips 14, Flashes 10. Although, I'll be impressed if both offenses manage to find the endzone with offensive big brains Matt Johnson and Joe Moorhead clashing head to head. Gotta laugh at it, or we'll just be frustrated! See you all there, dress warm, temps look like they will plummet. Roll Zips1 point

I think you probably need to become interested in the hope that Bullock has grown over the past couple weeks and shows some promise that he could be the leader in next year’s QB derby. Jennings showed almost nothing in the spring. Wasel was overwhelmed. I’d be 240 volt shocked if either saw a meaningful minute on the field next Wednesday. Or 241…whatever it takes.1 point

Respectfully, I disagree. Unlike most international leagues that allow ties, the NCAA permits re-entry on substitutions, so there's no requirement that the same players play all those additional minutes. AND the ability of a coach to manage minutes to prevent injury and the bench's exaggerated role in the game is a good indirect way to award wins and losses based on merit. The other thing I disagree with is that both the NCAAT and FIFA require a full 30 minutes of extra time rather than golden goal. Why continue playing after breaking the tie? The full 30 minutes diminishes urgency and potentially recreates, through both teams scoring, the exact circumstance that was intended to be broken. I always liked the idea of both teams being required to remove a player from the pitch every three minutes to open up more space and create more opportunities. I suspect that with this approach, penalties would rarely if ever be needed.0 points
